ASSESSMENT TASK 3: CREATIVE TASK AND WRITTEN REFLECTION
In this assessment you will reflect on Catholic social thought to apply it to a theme from this unit and
a marginalised or minority group in Australia society. There are two parts for this assessment task.
Part 1: Produce an original and creative work that reflects the relevance of CST principles and a
theme from the unit to a marginalised or minority group in Australia.
Original and creative work: choose one from the following options:
1) a letter to a chief executive officer of a company; or
2) a poster; or
3) a written direction/script for a dramatic/comedic scene/skit; or
4) a journal entry.
The original and creative work is not included in the overall word count for this assessment
task and should be no more than one A4 page in length (or equivalent). Kindly note: the
original and creative piece is not assessed per se, but it is a necessary requirement for this
assessment task.
CST principles: choose subsidiarity and participation.
Theme: choose one from the following options:
1) Flourishing and the good life (relates to Module 3); or
2) Empathy and compassion (relates to Module 4); or
3) Advocacy and action (relates to Module 5).
Marginalised or minority group: choose one from the following options:
1) Culturally and linguistically diverse people; or
2) Migrants to Australia from countries affected by civil/international conflict or natural
disasters.
Part 2: Based on your original and creative work, write a personal reflection that explores the
relationships between the prescribed CST principles; your chosen theme from the unit; your chosen
group; and how these relationships are important for your course of study.

The Church's teachings on social issues go quite deep (CST). It is both old and modern because it reveals timeless truths rooted in the Church's two thousand decades of history while constantly adapting to the needs of our world (Behr,2019). The Church has given considerable consideration to many of the most important challenges confronting modern countries, including what form of governance and economic structure would be ideal for developing individual liberty, why religion should be addressed in public forums, what sorts of pathologies are undermining our society, how companies can guarantee employees are considered with respect and the perils of a "welfare state." Catholic social doctrine is rich and nuanced (CST). It is both old and modern because it reveals unchanging truths rooted in the Church's two millennia of existence while adapting to new cultural contexts (Brecht,2019). The Church has given considerable consideration to many of the most important challenges confronting modern countries, including what form of governance and economic structure would be ideal for developing individual freedom, why spirituality should be addressed in public forums, what kind of pathologies are undermining our society, how companies should guarantee employees are treated with dignity and respect, and the dangers of a "welfare state," to mention a few (Brigham,2018).
The concept of inalienable rights and the development of a humane self-conception are central to Catholic social theory. In this introspection, I will dissect the ideas I've selected to write about to understand better their significance to my future career and the context in which I now find myself. Subsidiarity, the general purpose of commodities, and the promotion of peace were the three concepts I selected to write about since they enabled me to link my chosen community and degree and Catholic beliefs (Finn,2021).
Human dignity and the common good are concerns that have been consistently highlighted in my education and my community, and Catholic social theory has helped me to understand both better. A peaceful society is one in which all members are treated fairly and with respect, regardless of their background or beliefs. There is a tight link between peace and justice, which must be taken into account while addressing the promotion of peace as a social philosophy of the church. Justice produces peace, and good order among people is essential to maintaining that peace (Guitián & Sison,2022).
A major tenet of catholic social thinking, which has always had significance for my community and my academic pursuits, is the promotion of peace. Because I have worked in the field of disability management for a long time and because I have a close relative who is disabled, I consider the disabled community to be my own. I have learned to accept the disabilities of people and to conduct myself with decency when interacting with them (Guitián & Sison,2022)....
