Introduction
The RN (registered nurse) practice is evidenced-based and person-centred with palliative, restorative, supportive, formative, curative and preventive elements. They keep working in professional and therapeutic relationships with individuals. It also involves the communities, groups and families. Those people might become healthy with ranges involving ability or having health problems having relation with mental or physical illness o
and health challenges. The challenged might get imposed through intellectual developmental, psychiatric and/or physical disabilities. As the health professionals regulated, the RNs have responsibility and accountability to this NMBA (nursing and midwifery board of Australia). To all those RNs, these refer to the registered nurse practising standards. This along with NMBA guidelines, codes and standards, requires in becoming evident in practice cu
ently. In this assignment, based on the case study on Alex, his responsibilities and roles as the graduate registered nurse will be determined and justified. It also involves the discussions about those recommendations in ways for him in taking the shift differently. Finally, some of the evidence-based strategies for aiding Alex's transition period as an RN will be discussed.
Discussion
Determining and justifying through NMBA RN practice standards
Considering the standards from the NMBA, Alex is not able to fulfil his responsibilities as a nurse. Based on those standards, we will discuss two of them which go with his situation for justifying the lacks he had from his part. In the case study, there is mention of Alex realizing upon not having worked before with the nursing-in-charge. He mentions upon just meeting the nurses there. This relates to the second standard from NMBA which refers to the registered nurse engaging in professional and therapeutic relationships. This involves the collegial generosities in this context involving mutual respect and trust in relationships professionally (Ostaszkiewicz, Thompson & Watt, 2019). The registered nurse requires in concluding, sustaining and establishing these relationships. These occur in the way which keeps differentiating those boundaries among personal and professional relationships. The RN requires effective communication and becoming respectful of that person's rights, beliefs, values, culture and dignity. The RN requires recognizing those people being experts in their life experiences. It also involves providing support along with directing people towards resources. This is done for optimization of decisions related to health. In this case, study, since Alex was new in the hospital having new nurses and the nursing-in-charge, he should have initiated communication with them in professional means. This would have helped him in knowing the activity taking place through those nurses and would have aided him is fulfilling his shift properly. Also, he should have cleared his doubts related to his shift with the nursing-in charge when his shift took over some changes.
There is another situation where he never a
anged any discharge. Due to some sudden event, his scheduled involved changes where he got some new patient from the department of the agency. This matches with the third standard whereas health professionals regulated, the RNs have responsibility and accountability in ensuring safety. It also involves having practice capability (Birks et al., 2016). This involves responding and self-management ongoing when concerning the capabilities of other health professionals for practising occurs. The RN has responsibility for their development professionally with a contribution to others' development. They even have a responsibility in providing education and information for enabling people in making decisions and taking actions with relations with health (Fisher, 2017). The case study mentions on Alex never looking after some patient before having end-stage-liver-failure. Also, after providing Ms O’ Sullivan with the antiemetic and setting the machine for automatic observation, he forgets in checking the patient. Plus, he couldn’t finish the documentation on Mr Maple. Based on the standard, the RN requires in responding timely upon the wellbeing and health of others and self. They need to give...
