Q8. Enter ‘Response 1’ or’ Response 2’ indicating the appropriate answe

Response 2: You speak with the other staff and organise for some children to go outside with you.

Q9. Enter ‘Response 1’ or’ Response 2’ indicating the appropriate answer: It is snack time. Three children have been building with blocks and, when asked to come for morning tea, they say they want to continue building.
Response 1: You ask if they are hungry or thirsty and they say no, so you leave them to continue building, but let them know that there are drinks available if needed.
Response 2: You tell them they must come and eat now because otherwise they will miss out on snack time.
Q10. Enter ‘Response 1’ or’ Response 2’ indicating the appropriate answer: An infant in care is falling asleep on the floor. It is almost lunchtime.
Response 1: You take the infant to bed and save lunch for when she wakes up.

CHCPRT001 - Assessment 1 Part A + B
Case study
Marcus (5 years) is usually a happy and busy child who participates in a range of activities and interacts with many different children in small groups. He has attended your service for over a year and you know him very well. MarcusÂ’s mum is a single parent and has recently started to go out socialising, often leaving Marcus with relatives and friends.

Today when Marcus a
ives at your service, he is crying. MarcusÂ’s uncle smells of alcohol and he does not talk to you or any of the educators.

Marcus tells you that he stayed at his uncleÂ’s house overnight while his mum went out. He stops crying after his uncle leaves, but chooses to sit in the book corner alone and yells at the other children to go away if they come near him.
Q1. Refer to the Case study below to answer the following: What uncharacteristic behaviours or indicators does Marcus display that could be linked with abuse?
As evident from the above-mentioned case study, Marcus usually is a happy kid who likes to be busy. Further, Marcus also used to get indulge in a number of activities as soon as he used to a
ive here and moreover he is a very friendly child. However, today he did not talk to any of the educatorÂ’s at the centre, which clearly reflects that something is wrong. Likewise, he was crying when he came which usually is not the scene because he seems to be very happy after reaching here.
Further, he chose to sit at the book corner alone, which is acceptable; however, yelling at other children is again an uncharacteristic behaviour. This clearly indicates and points that he is afraid and does not like anyone to go near him. Further, crying also indicates that he may have been beaten by his uncle and this could be reason why he stopped crying after his uncle left.
Q 2. Refer to the Case study below to answer the following: Identify which form/s of abuse this uncharacteristic behaviour or indicator could be linked to.
Since, Marcus was crying when his uncle
ought him here, which is not normal, and also he stopped crying after his drunk uncle left therefore, this could be an indication that he was being abused by his uncle. Further, he did not choose to talk and instead sat quietly at the book corner, which usually children prefer when they are afraid.
Likewise, he also yelled at other children who went close or near to him which points towards the fact that either he is still afraid or i
itated. All these uncharacteristic behaviours could be an indicator that Marcus was beaten by his uncle or was being shouted upon. There is a strong probability of Marcus could have seen something which made him fear because his uncle was drunk when he left him here and not to forget he stopped crying as soon as his uncle left.
Q3. Refer to the Case study below to answer the following: What open and non-leading questions could you ask Marcus to help determine if he is being harmed?
Marcus is a 5-year-old child and as mentioned by Turner et al. (2017), abuse can have a very bad influence for a long period of time on childÂ’s mental stability. Since, Marcus have not talked to anyone therefore it is necessary to ask him if he have been harmed or abused. However, it needs to be very subtle so that he does not feel feared. Moreover, he is already very i
itated and angry hence, the questions need to be slipped in between casual conversation. Open and non-leading questions that could be asked are,
· Marcus, would you like to tell us about what you did yesterday?
· Did you go out with your uncle?
· What did you had for dinner Marcus?
· Did you and your uncle had a good time?
Q4. Refer to the Case study below to answer the following: What circumstances indicate that Marcus is vulnerable to abuse?
MarcusÂ’s uncle smelled of alcohol, which shows that he was drunk and drinking at this moment of day clearly indicates that may be he is an alcoholic. Further, Marcus was crying which he usually he is not and he stopped crying as soon as his uncle left. Moreover, his mother was out last night because she has recently started socialising and as a result, she leaves Marcus with relatives, which clearly makes him vulnerable to abuse. Likewise, Marcus stayed overnight with his alcoholic uncle and this clearly indicates that he is vulnerable to abuse.
Q5. Refer to the Case study below to answer the following: When you consider the case study what indicates to you that abuse may be involved?
The unusual crying with which Marcus came today reflects that something may be wrong....
