In this reflective assessment, I will draw from my past clinical placement in Royal North Shore Hospital in the Orthopaedic ward working alongside Registered Nurse David (pseudonym). He is an effective leader, during the placement he demonstrated attributes of strong communication skills and his ability to motivate colleagues.

In this reflective assessment I would like to mention from my past clinical placement experience in Royal North Shore Hospital in the Orthopaedic ward working alongside Registered Nurse David. He demonstrated strong leadership skill which was prevalent from the attributes he manifested through his strong communication skills and his ability to motivate colleagues.
Leadership is defined as the sturdy influence on the performances of employees against their work (Saleem, 2015, p.563)
For physicians, the evolution to becoming real modern leaders is a major accomplishment (Souba WW, 2011).Communication can be of three forms i.e. written, ve
al and non-ve
al. Good eye contact, good body language, control facial expression are the important traits of a strong leader. For example - Exhibiting strong Communication skill with proper body language in the intense critical unit is very crucial. Therefore, in medical professional demonstrating good communication skill through body language is of extreme need. Again, it is also essential to have a proper ve
al communication skill to clearly communicate the thoughts and ideas. A poor communication can lead to many confusion and ambiguity amongst the nurses and hence can affect the quality of services delivered to the patients. Effective communication needs a very important skill which is active listening, it is a skill which require high degree of self-control and discipline which only a strong leader can manifest. Another important thing is the ability to understand without forming any judgment. Apart from these there are seven Cs of effective communication which consists of:
Completeness – It means the message conveyed should have all required details to be considered as complete and full information.
Concreteness – It means the information should have a clear objective which should be abide by it.
Courtesy – It means the information in conveyed with sincerity, politeness and enthusiasm
Co
ectness – It means the information conveyed is co
ect based on facts and figures.
Clarity – It means the information given has lucidity and there is no ambiguity.
Consideration – It means the information has to be logical and line with the objective.
Conciseness - It means the information provided is in fewer words and are crisp.
Mr David has clearly exhibited all these quality while performing the clinical activities. Leadership behaviour is friendly, open and sociable, and the leader creates a team positivity and treats subordinates as equals (Blanchard, 2009).
Another strong leadership attribute Mr David possess is the ability to motivate the team members.
Motivation can be defined as every impact that causes, direct and upholds the target behavior of people (Buble, 2006, p. 493).An effective leader is the one who can inspire and motivate the employees through their knowledge. Therefore a strong leader must know all the motivational factors. He should be able to provide a vision to the employees that directs the team towards the purpose. It is essential to make the employees to have a clear vision of the goals to be achieved. An author stated "Under certain circumstances, it is the process of influencing the activities of others in order to achieve certain goals. It is the ability to direct the process of realizing goals and to motivate others during this process "(Koçak, Özüdoğru, 2012, p. 79). "It is the influence of other people's behavior without any difficulty or violence. Leadership is to devote itself to work "(Tunçer,, 2011, p.60). Mr David shared his personal stories and experience to inspire the team members. He also used to set clear goals for completing a project to make the employees understand what is expected out of them. Which helped us to get motivated due to the proper clarification achieved from him regarding the concerned task. Since the deadlines were not unrealistic and was quite achievable hence we used to feel more involved and motivated to do the assigned task with more efficiency.
Since he himself was hard working and had immense amount of professional integrity and have the positive attitude towards every task and used to value time and effort of all team members which indirectly motivated us to demonstrate the same kind of action. He had mindfulness and used to remain very calm and composed while handling critical cases. He used to praise for the good work and often used to encourage us to perform better, these made us feel valued and appreciated and induced us to work even harder. The feedback he used to give actually made us perform better and significant improvement in productivity was also seen during that time. Mr David not only motivated us through explaining his ideas...
