What is Anxiety Disorder:
The real cause of anxiety is actually unknown and is a normal reaction to stress. Anxiety is related to the traumatic life situations in many patients. Anxiety disorders are actually characterized by a sudden feeling of panic and fear, restlessness, and uneasiness. The treatment for such a thing includes certain specific medications and therapy and stress relief procedures. Sometimes anxiety is beneficial for us as it alerts us from certain dangers and helps us to be aware and give our attention to avert the same. Anxiety disorders form a part of mental disorders in patients and almost contributes to 30-35% of their symptoms. These can be treated and various remedies are available, thanks to the development of medical science. Treatment helps most people lead normal productive lives. Such type of disorders is critical as it impacts the education life in students, interpersonal relationships among the family members and also job and career performance in the professional field. Many other disorders also creep in if such matters are not given importance and treated properly. (Mayoclinic,2020)
As I discuss this topic here today, I would like to highlight the fact that, I have an aunt in my family who is in her mid-forties and has this anxiety disorder for last five years. She is undergoing certain medications and stress relief therapies in a week to treat the same. Things have improved over the years as initially she used to have sudden shocks and phobias to high sounds, door bell ringing sound and even telephone calls at home. Her case was termed as a mix of generalised anxiety disorder and specific phobias. In generalised anxiety disorder involves persistent and excessive wo
y that interferes with daily activities and also creates other symptoms like restlessness, fatigue, lapses in concentration and sleeping disorders.
The anxiety is related to daily and normal work responsibilities at home and for family. Over a period of time such things aggravate and leads to mental disorders. So proper attention needs to be given in the initial stages so that the same can be treated well and hence the individual can lead a normal life again. She also had specific phobias for the sounds of door bell ringing and telephone calls and sounds. This is also better described as an excessive and persistent fear of a specific object, situation or activity that is generally not harmful. In the initial years, upon direction by the doctors her immediate family members used to keep their phones in silent mode at home and even disconnected the doo
ell to help her cope with the specific phobia as simultaneously her medications and stress management therapies were in progress.
