What we want to see:
The work must be fully referenced with in-text citations and a reference list at the end. We
ecommend you work with your Academic Writing Guide to ensure that you reference co
ectly. You
will find a link to this document on the main page of every unit, under the 'Assessments' section.
Co
ect academic writing and referencing are essential tasks that you need to learn. We
ecommend a minimum of ten references.
Referencing: References are assessed for their quality. You should draw on quality academic
sources, such as books, chapters from edited books, journals etc. Your textbook can be used as a
eference, but not the Study Guide and lecture notes. We want to see evidence that you are capable
of conducting your own research. Also, in order to help markers determine students’ understanding
of the work they cite, all in-text references (not just direct quotes) must include the specific page
numbe
s if shown in the original.
Researching: You can search for peer-reviewed journal articles, which you can find in the online
journal databases and which can be accessed from the li
ary homepage. Reputable news sites
such as The Conversation (https:
theconversation.com/au/health), online dictionaries and online
encyclopedias are acceptable as a starting point to gain knowledge about a topic. Government
departments, research institutes such as the National Health and Medical Research Council
(NHMRC), international organisations such as the World Health Organisation (WHO) and local not
for profit organisations such as the Cancer Council are also good resources.
Formatting: The assessment MUST be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word format. Other
formats may not be readable by markers. Please be aware that any assessments submitted in other
formats will be considered LATE and will lose marks until it is presented in Word.
What we don’t want to see:
Plagiarism: All sources of information need to properly be acknowledged. Please refer to the
plagiarism website on blackboardi. By clicking the 'Upload this file' button you acknowledge that you
have read, understood and can confirm that the work you are about to submit complies with the
Flexible and Online plagiarism policy as shown in the JNI Student Handbook. Like other forms of
cheating plagiarism is treated seriously. Plagiarising students will be refe
ed to the Program
Manager.
Word Count: Marks will be deducted for failure to adhere to the word count – as a general rule you
may go over or under by 10% than the stated length.
Late Submissions: Students are advised that any submissions past the due date incur a 10%
penalty per day, calculated from the total mark e.g. a task marked out of 30 will incur 3 marks
penalty per day.
No submission: Students must attempt all tasks to be eligible to pass the unit.

Introduction
Mental health is one of the most essential as well as important aspects associated with human health that is neglected or not acknowledged. Further, most of the times, mental health issues are considered as a social stigma or a weakness. As a result of this, the mental health patients are not even considered as a medical issue or disease. There have been several initiatives as well as numerous health programs launched at both national and international level and World Mental Health Day is one such international initiative launched for global mental health education. This assignment will focus upon the initiative as well as its objectives and the role of agencies such as government as well as non-government in addressing mental health. Further, efforts will be made in order to identify the contribution of community engagement with the initiative along with the impact of social media and promotion of mental health.
Overview of the Initiative
10 October is cele
ated as World Mental health Day, which is a global day dedicated to the global mental health education, advocacy and awareness. This is majorly is an initiative from World Federation for Mental Health in order to increase public awareness as well as community engagement towards the issue of increasing mental health issues worldwide.
It was cele
ated in 1992 for the first time by the initiative from Deputy Secretary General Richard Hunter. Before 1994, there was no international provision or initiated that may have focused upon the aspect of spreading education related to mental health. This initiative is supported by World Health Organisation (WHO) in order to raise awareness related to mental health through the inclusion of Ministries of health and civil society organizations across the world.
Mental Health Australia has been regarded as the leading World Mental Health Day campaign in Australia. Thousands of supporters every year collaborate in order to cele
ate this program and to
ing attention towards mental health and its impacts upon social, mental and physical life of individuals. Further, Mental Health Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that represents mental health section in Australia (Mental Health Australia, 2019). Further, this agency focuses upon the involvement of whole community towards this in order to create a mentally healthy society.
Why It Is Necessary and What It Hopes To Achieve
Mental illness and issues are medical conditions just as if any other disease and therefore, they also require medical assistance and treatment. However, due to social stigma and negligence of these issues, mental issues have been prevailing and increasing at a much faster rate. Further, numerous misconceptions as well as misinterpretations also exists; with respect to those mental issues and is damaging lives of individuals. Further, with respect to Australia, social stigma related to mental illness along with prejudice and misconceptions exits in Australian society and one of the major reasons behind this is lack of education related to mental illness.
Likewise, Mental Health Australia also suggested that the prior mentioned issues are major factors that may restrict individuals or due to which individuals suffering from mental issues are unable to seek medical help, which further affects their lives adversely (Mental Health Australia, 2019). Due to persistent mental issue or negligence towards them, individuals may continuously feel scary, incompetent, weak or hopeless and therefore, these behaviours can appear anywhere and affects their personal as well as professional life. One in five Australian individuals have been reported to be suffering from mental issues and they have been reported to ignore them due to family pressure, friends, colleagues and other members in community.
Through World Mental Health Day cele
ation, one of the major aim is to achieve awareness for the global community suffering from mental illness in an empathetic way. Further, it also aims to lift the spirit,...
