Assessment 4: Case Study Essay (15%)
Due Date: Week XXXXXXXXXXwords)
The above image was sourced from the City of Armadale website, taken on Friday, 3 August
2018 at the National Aboriginal and To
es Strait Islander Children's Day cele
ation in
Armadale, on the eastern outskirts of the Perth metropolitan area (City of Armadale, 2020,
City cele

The resources listed below will provide a starting point for your research and local
government websites are great sources of information regarding up-to-date demographics.
Evidence of the use of the unit textbooks is essential to provide definitions and credible
discussion of theory. APA 7 formatting and referencing is expected.
What is the impact on the development of Aboriginal and To
es Strait Islander
(ATSI) people when they live in a community that supports the expression of their
cultural identity?
Examples of communities to consider would include Geelong, Victoria; Mount Druitt,
NSW or Armadale, Western Australia. Include comments regarding any of the
following topics, and/or some of your own;
• Intergenerational relationships,
• parent/child centres,
• education levels,
• pre-school/school attendance,
• health facilities (e.g. hospitals, infant health clinics, drug & alcohol centres),
• funding models (from all three levels of government) and
• localised statistics (housing, educational institutions, income levels etc.).
This assessment requires you to apply Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and one other of
the theories of human development that you have studied in this unit and to
integrate your knowledge of risk, opportunity and resilience as it relates to
communities and individuals of the ATSI population.

Introduction
The Aboriginal and To
es Strait Islander (ATSI) people are one of the earliest natives of Australian subcontinent. The people belonging to the community have been facing trouble since the subcontinent has been colonised by outsiders. Although, the recent development for the aboriginals and other indigenous community has
ought back their old glory and it has helped them to build a lifestyle among the rest of the people of the country. After years of exploitation and oppression, the ATSI people have found value among other citizens. The impact of an inclusive society, where the ATSI can express them the way they are, has been assessed in this study.
Communal Empathy of Aboriginal and To
es Strait Islander (ATSI) People
According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs theory, human beings develop their needs on five stages throughout their professional and personal lives. The five stages are physiological needs, safety and security, love and belongingness, esteem needs and self-actualization. The ATSI people have found the development in their social status and learnt to accept the basic and physiological needs of society (Butler et al., 2019). The fact that their cultural identity has been accepted by the majority, has given them the solidarity of trust towards the society and they have felt sustained in a communal locality. In the communities of Geelong, Victoria, Mount Druitt, the western part of Australia and Armadale, indigenous people live with the other communities of Australia.
Previously, the mentioned localities used to be the only place for indigenous communities but later years have seen a communal balance between indigenous community and other ethnic groups who have lived side by side by maintaining communal integrity and cultural empathy (Duke et al., 2021). The modern community of the selected regions have given them the opportunity to have better educational system for their children. Previously the indigenous children were not accepted in the public schools but the recent changes have given them the opportunity for better educational and child-care system (Kildea et al., 2019). It is the general requirement of any community to be acknowledged of their identity of culture and community.
