SECTION A
The theme of the first article is to include the virtual reality technique to the children of age 5-12 years to reduce the pain and anxiety while drawing blood. According to the critical appraisal skill programme, the study was assessed to design an intervention of the outcome. It was relevant that the groups of children who were provided with the roller coaster and ocean rift virtual reality, experienced a lower pain score than the children on trial. As supported by Iannicelli et al. (2019), it is witnessed that the virtual reality method is effective in reducing the pain experienced by a child. This helps in diverting the mind of the child and produce a lower response towards the pain. Similarly, the second article is successful in providing the intervention of dry mouth and excessive thirst in critically ill patients. As evidenced by VonStein et al. (2019), the nurses can take the interventions in providing mouthcare to reduce the distress of the critically ill patients. Using mouthwash and vitamin C sprays are effective interventions provided in the second article too. Hence, both the articles addressed the focussed question clearly.
In both the articles, the interventions were applied on randomised population to get an unbiased result. In the first article random groups of children were included in the virtual reality with two different virtual reality set-ups. Control group was also set up to reduce the systematic bias of the result. On the other hand, in the second article too the different interventions of preventing dry mouth were applied to the critically ill patients keeping a control group to compare the result. Randomised method was ca
ied out which included both men and women in the studies. The children were selected randomly for the trial and the control which made the study effective.
Both the studies were completed with the randomised methodology and the conclusion was drawn effectively including the result of all the groups. The conclusion is worth appraising for both the studies as the outcomes are positive for both and effective in clinical nursing. Both the Virtual Reality technique to reduce pain in children and the use of supplements like mouth wash, vitamin C spray, and lip moisturiser to reduce the excessive thirst and the distress in the critically ill patients are effective in the clinical set up. Though the second study has some limitation of time. The thirst can be controlled for up to 10 hours maximum, yet further studies can...
