Assessment 3: A report
synthesising the findings of the
Needs Assessment
GUIDELINES FOR THE ASSESSMENT
Due date: 5th October 2018 @ 9am XXXXXXXXXXWeighting: 30% of Semester total
Task: For this assessment, you are required to write a Report that summarises your conducted
Needs Assessment on the topic of your choosing (same as Assessment 2).
Lecture 8 will cover tips on this assessment.
The Report should written in past tense (it is reporting on already collected and analysed data)
and should be a maximum of 1800 words in length (excluding references).
In this Report, you are required to outline the following information:
Aim and rationale for Needs Assessment (approximately 300 words)
Introduce the topic, state the aim of the Needs Assessment, and provide a
ief rationale for
the Needs Assessment.
Overview of Methodology (From Assessment 1 -approximately 300 words)
Briefly describe the data sources under each of the four types of needs. You are welcome to
present this visually in a summary table, or describe it in-text.
Example table for Overview of Methodology:
Bradshaw’s Hierarchy of Needs
Expert Felt Expressed Comparative
Synthesis of findings from Needs Assessment (approximately 900 words)
Using all for types of needs, develop an argument around the ‘Key Findings’ of this Needs
Assessment. You can use sub-headings that reflect these key findings to structure this section.
The main purpose of this section is to combine all these pieces of data (across all four needs) to
present a coherent synthesis of information. You need to do the interpreting of this information
for the reader.
In short, you will need to ‘analyse’ these pieces of evidence together to present a succinct and
comprehensive summary of the chosen data sources. Part of presenting this synthesis is going
eyond describing the findings of these data to also offer some critical analysis (for example:
limitations of the data, overall quality of the data, whose views are emphasised and whose are
missing).
Consider the following questions to guide the writing of this section:
• What are the main findings from this Needs Assessment? (i.e. what are the take-home-
messages)
• Are there any gaps or contradictions/inconsistencies in the data? For instance, are there
particular perspectives that would be important that are missing or under-represented?
Alternatively, do the data tell a coherent story, or is there inconsistent findings or
messages in the data?
• Whose views are most represented in this Needs Assessment, and whose are missing?
Conclusion (approximately – 300 words)
Briefly restate the purpose of this report. Provide recommendations on the basis of the findings
from this Needs Assessment. These recommendations should include possible health
promotion actions that should be undertaken as a next step. Make sure these
ecommendations are relevant to the findings described in this Report. These can be presented
in well-written concise bullet points.
