1. Two Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) Determining Need for Project
Every country has its own list of social determinants of health (SDoH). These are the factors, which create impact on the health of individual or community. According to Thornton et al. (2016), social determinants of health can be defined as the circumstances, in which a person born, live and grow old. These circumstances are largely influenced by power, money and allocation of resources done at local, national and global level. These influences shaped the condition and health outcomes of the community. As per the case study, indigenous population of the Gnibi society are accused of having many cases of child abuse or female molestation. The social determinants responsible for such circumstances are healthy child development and education (Rural Health Channel, 2014).
Education
Education is one of the major problems and the important social health determinant. Community in which education is low faces many problems such as poverty, lack of health awareness, addiction and unemployment. As suggested by Council (2016), community where education level is low, people either become unemployed or pursued low skilled jobs. This results into poverty. Education provides awareness about social issues and social stigma such as sex. Sex education given in schools allow children to learn about all aspect of the topic. This prevents curiosity in teenagers and they do not take any rash actions to fulfil their curiosity.
As per the case study, indigenous community faced the trauma when large number of youths from their community is a
ested due to molestation. Lack of education and ignorance of parents become the reason that people from the community molesting child or females in their area. As suggested by Thornton et al. (2016), people with low education are health illiterate. They do not pay attention towards the signs and symptoms of the body. It has been observed that uneducated community is not aware of the government facilities or policies made for improving the quality of the health especially children and women. Lack of education make youth to develops bad habits like addiction of drug and alcohol in them. Thus, education is necessary to get the high-skilled jobs and in improving the living condition of the individual.
Healthy child development
Child is the future of the community. Future of the children solely dependent on their development. Healthy child development can mainly occur in early years of the children, in early years, children can be vulnerable to many diseases such as polio, chicken pox, marasmus and kwashiorkor. Healthy child development includes taking care of child health, fulfilling their emotional, social and educational needs. Children who grow up in healthy and safe environment become physically and mentally sound.
On the contrary, children whose basic needs are not fulfilled, become either mentally or physically unfit. As mentioned by Strandell and Hall (2015), families who live in a safe neighbourhood and their residential environment is healthy, children in those houses do not undergo any mental health issues. On contrary, children who face domestic violence and child abuses have poor health development.
As per the case study, it has been observed that children in the indigenous community might be victim of child abuse. Organisers of healing circle using various...
