Introduction
Health promotion can be defined as an amalgamation of factors of external environment that support conditions of healthy living of an individual, community or groups as a whole. The factors of external environment includes political, educational, organisational, structural, socio-economic and interpersonal patterns exhibited in various groups or communities. It also includes interventions designed to elevate the living standard of individuals and groups, for example; improved public policy designed for betterment of health standards introduced by the state, programmes designed for teaching individuals to ensure they understand the importance of better health and addressing and supporting behaviour variations and problem statements.
1. Model /framework employed by the campaign
Various theories have been laid down to examine the idea of health promotion. These models are an attempt to scientifically examine and explain factors deployed for betterment of human health, its betterment and need for interventions. As informed by Saslow, Summers, Aikens and Unwin (2018), there are various theories used for health promotion. Some of them are listed as under:
Ecological Models: Ecological models recognises the influence of various factors on health behaviours, including Intrapersonal or individual, interpersonal factors, institutional and organisational factors, community factors and public policy factors, including local, state, and federal policies and laws that regulate or support health actions (McLeod et al., 2017).
Health Belief Model: This model focuses on beliefs acceptance and attitude about health conditions, and forecasts individual health-related behaviours.
Stages of Change Model (Transtheoretical Model): The model explicates an individual's readiness to change in stages. These stages of behaviour change include Pre-contemplation, Contemplation, preparation, action taken, and maintenance of Behaviour and termination of negative behaviours (Salazar, Crosby & DiClemente, 2015).
Social Cognitive Theory: It states that an individual’s health behaviour is influenced by their own experiences, experiences of others and environmental factors. The theory suggests change in behaviour can be achieved by reinforcements and observations.
Theory of Reasoned Action/Planned Behaviour: The theory states that a person's health behaviour is determined by their intention. Moreover, a person's intention is predicted by their attitude and subjective norms. Changes in attitude and outlook promise greater perceived control and increase the likelihood of intents governing changes (Sallis, Owen & Fisher, 2015).
2. Evidence from literature supporting the program
With the dynamism of the lifestyle pattern, drastic changes in behaviour are a common phenomenon. Before individuals know it, various evils creep in the daily routines of an individual, be it obesity, smoking, excessive eating style, drug abuse or unhealthy living. Every individual is unique and distinct and has his own problems to tackle; we do not know how much goes unnoticed and unspoken. According to Lewis (2015), looking at the recent work patters and lifestyle of individuals it is not difficult to predict that people are aspiration driven rather than well being driven. With less social interactions and more virtual world indulgence, it is easy for people to fall prey to health hazards and not notice its primitive signs.
