Assessment 1: Industry and Organisation Research Report and Ethics Plan (30%)
A. Research Report
You are required to conduct research and prepare a report on an Australian
Securities Exchange (ASX) public, listed company in the industry linked to
your specialisation/s or, if you have no specialisation/s, linked to the
elective/s most closely related to your work experience and/or area/s of
interest for your chosen career.
The company may not be a company at which you are cu
ently or were
previously employed.

As a starting point for your research, use:
a. The Australian Securities Exchange website at www.asx.com.au
. IBISWorld at https:

usiness.
In addition, research as many other credible and reliable sources as you can.
Your report is to consist of 3 PARTS:
1. In your report you are to provide an Introduction incorporating the following
ackground information to the organisation. Research, analyse and report
on:
i. The organisation and the industry within which It operates.
ii. Any events, incidents, controversies and any other positive or negative
press regarding the organisation. Search the media to find the information.
iii. Key executives within the organisation (such as founders, directors,
managers) to determine their background, interests, achievements, and
connections.
iv. The organisation’s competitors.
v. The organisation’s employees.
Provide as much information about the organisation as you can, as you would
esearch if seeking employment with the organisation.
2. Use the Business Model Canvas (BMC) as a tool in your endeavour to
understand the organisation. Complete the BMC in summary using the

template provided in the Assessment 1 Resources in Discussion Forum DF5.
In addition, provide a more detailed explanation of each of the 9 elements of
the BMC in the body of your report. Attach the template to your assessment,
in one single submission.
3. Further, you must analyse the business macro-environment using the PESTEL
analysis. Do not simply describe the analytical tool itself and what each
element represents but apply each element of the PESTEL acronym to the
organisation itself, to determine the impact of each factor on the
organisation. See the Assessment 1 Resources in Discussion Forum DF5.
Prepare a report on your research with appendices and sources of information. Do not
simply regurgitate the articles and data or provide only a description. You need to analyse
and interpret the information and present it in a professional, succinct and informative
manner. Do not speculate! Distinguish between fact and opinion. Do not make assumptions.
Consider the integrity of the source of the information and the relevance of the information
for your purpose.
B. Ethics Plan
a. Provide a step-by-step plan to deal with ethical challenges which you may
face in the organisation refe
ed to in your research report above, based on
an identified code of ethics, as provided by your learning facilitator and/or in
the Assessment 1 Resources in Discussion Form DF5.
. Give a practical example of an ethical challenge which could arise, and which
involves a
each or potential
each of the code of ethics,
iefly stating
the nature of the
each.
The report and plan combined are to be 1 200 words: 900 to 1 000 words for the report and
200 to 300 words for the ethical plan and example.
