Why keep a Reflective Journal?
Reflection is an important process for learning. It will allow you to engage with the material taught
and to figure out what this means to you now and what it might mean in the future.
Here are some commonly used definitions of reflection:
“Reflection is an important human activity in which people recapture their experience, think about it,
mull over & evaluate it. It is this working with experience that is important in learning.” (Boud et al.
1985, p. 43)
“Reflection is a deliberate and conscientious process that employs a person’s cognitive, emotional
and somatic capacities to mindfully contemplate on past, present or future (intended or planned)
actions in order to learn, better understand and potentially improve future actions. “ (Harvey,
Coulson & McMaugh, 2016, p.9).
How to keep a Reflective Journal
In your Reflective Journal, every week you should write about your learning for this unit. Reflecting is
more than just writing down “WHAT” was taught or “WHAT” you learnt. It’s about analysing what
you have learnt from different perspectives, what does this mean to you – what does this mean to
you now and in the future – it’s the “SO WHAT?” that should be included in your reflection. Are
there areas that mean more than others and why? Are the concepts you found particularly
challenging and Why? What can you do to become more comfortable with the challenging concepts?
Are there concepts that you feel you will apply in your workplace or in further learning?
Reflection is PERSONAL. You may wish to reflect on other aspects of your learning too. There is no
ight or wrong way.
What to submit at the end?
As this Journal needs to be submitted as an electronic file into a Turnitin DropBox the suggested
format is a word document where you have kept your reflections. You should write a paragraph or
two each week (no more than half a page). The simplest way is to create a document in MSWord
write the date of the teaching week you’re reflecting on and then write your thoughts.
In November, simply submit the file into the Turnitin DropBox.

It feels very enlightening when the very first lecture of the subject discuss about the complexities of the mechanisms. Every sector is developed on the base of the complex system interaction. Healthcare sector is a system, which work successfully which interaction of many departments such as policy makers, teachers, researchers, policy makers, government, safety regulation agencies, regulators, and boards of directors. I had sound idea that many people contributed in providing the high-quality care to the patient, but this week I had come across the dependency of these department and complex interaction between them. There are some peculiar features of the complexity of healthcare, these features include population of agents, interacting, dynamic, and emergent rules and governance. The healthcare network is a we
ed structure instead of linear one.
Week 2
Resilience is a necessity to handle the crisis. This week I had come across healthcare system resilience and the way healthcare system deals with the crisis. Healthcare system resilience includes the capacity of the involved personals such as health actors, population, and institution to prepare themselves for the crisis and effectively respond to it. I had learnt about the method adopted in the healthcare system to handle the crisis. Occu
ence of crisis in healthcare is not a new thing but important is use of past knowledge to handle the future crisis. I had learnt about 7 principles of resilience include diversity and redundancy, managing connectivity, polycentric governance, participation of stakeholders, encouraging learning, slow variables and feedback and complex adaptive system thinking. Adopting of these principles can be helpful in handling any crisis.
Week 3
Technology has become part of all the organizations, healthcare organization is not an exception. There are various technologies available and widely used to make the healthcare organization effective such as electronic medical record and computerized provider order entry. There have been many other technologies, which are implemented in the healthcare settings depending upon the needs. These tools improve the clinical quality outcomes. Generally, we thought that implementation of technology in a setting can solve all the issues. It is a biggest myth as failure to understand whom, why and under what conditions technological interventions implemented; the desired outcome is not achieved. I had learnt that relying completely on technology could not be solution as lot of work need to be done for the proper implementation of the technology.
Week 4
This week, I had learnt about electronic health record. It is a device, which replaces paper work and
ings the digitalization in the healthcare. Electronic health record is...
