Assignment 1 Cycle A
Part A: Nutrition and Health
1.
Poor nutrition involves both, lack of sufficient diet and within diet consumption of unhealthy food. There are many health risks associated with poor nutrition such as diabetes, bone deformation and osteoporosis, obesity, decay of tooth, high blood pressure, improper
ain functioning, cholesterol, mental disorder and depression, heart disease, and some cancers. Further, lack of a proper diet may also lead to an increased recovery time period after the workout and therefore, a healthy must be sufficient and must include proper ratio of macronutrients that are proteins, fats and ca
ohydrates.
2.
Body composition is directly related to diet. Food or the nutrients intake determines the body fat percentage, lean muscle mass that individual may have along with the aspect that whether the individual will follow weight gain or weight loss is also dependent upon diet. Diet plan with calories higher than the basal metabolic rate (BMR) requirement along with inclusion of high ca
ohydrate and fat rich foods would definitely lead to weight gain. While diet with calorie deficit than the basal metabolic rate requirement (BMR) and foods with low, glycaemic index may result in weight loss and reduction in energy partitioning.
3.
Two of the sources of nutrition information in Australia are ‘Nutrition Information panels’ and ‘Nutrition Information labelling by Food Standards Australia & New Zealand’. These provide information on average amount of energy in the food, in other words calorie
eakdown of food, user guide for nutrition information and also gives various food and food related information.
4.
Geographical background of people may influence in differences in food choice. In addition, among people, there may be a difference of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food intake. Cultural and religious restrictions may not allow an individual to consume red meat, or even animals and animal-based products and they will have to consumer ‘vegan diet’. While in some other cases, cultural and religious restrictions may not be much strict and individuals may be able to consumer vegetarian or even meat based diet.
5.
Poor nutrition can affect your health in many ways. Without proper meal, you cannot gain energy to work. This induces other side effects such as mental instability, fatigue and nauseated feeling. Further, food controls the hormonal balance and improper food habits may result into poor hormonal control, as a result of which mind does not maintain proper coordination with body and individuals feels uneasy and not well. Osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes are some of the major health issues related to improper food intake. Reduced intake of food may also put negative impact on mental health resulting depression and mood swings. It is always suggested that one should take a timely and healthy diet.
6.
Old age people and pregnant women should take special dietary care. Old people are at higher risk of health issues. Malnutrition may worsen their health even more. They need strength for maintaining muscle movement, walking, proper sleep and immunity. Therefore, they need special dietary care. Pregnant women need protein rich food and need nutrients for the growth of the foetus, for safe pregnancy and safe delivery of child.
7.
By following dietary guidelines for every individual and sharing the importance of meal planning as well as preparation, in details, it will help to promote healthy eating behaviours in a workplace. Ca
ying pre-prepared meals for the day and specified time for meal consumption at workplace would be effective model healthy eating behaviours at workplace.
8.
a)
Accredited practicing dieticians’ assess the nutrition needs of people living in healthcare, old age care facilities and nursing homes. Therefore, they are required to take care of the daily eating habits as well as diet plans of respective individuals.
)

General practitioners monitor the health issues of people in healthcare facilities and refer them to other specialists when medical assistance is needed. They majorly diagnose diseases and can also recommend medications for the treatment of those diseases.
Part B: Scenario Based Questions
1.
Considering the realistic expectation to lose weight, 5%-7% of body weight can be reduced in a week. However, proper consistency in diet will be required, which will include a calorie deficit diet that is 400-600 calorie deficit than her BMR in 1st week while it may be increased to 700-calorie deficit for drastic weight loss if her body will permit. Low ca
ohydrate, high fat and high protein diet will have to follow with proper consistency. Further, high intensity interval cardio (HIIT) along with special emphasis on compound lifts such as deadlifts, overhead shoulder presses and squats will be required.
2.
Body weight should coincide the basal metabolic index (BMI) ratio and it should not be measured in terms of looks but of health. Healthy weight is required for a healthy life. Being underweight may also acquire health issues and lower immunity. Keeping a healthy lifestyle, eating healthy food and doing physical exercise keep us fit; and ready for combatting against physical issues. Moreover, taking 6-7 hours undistu
ed sleep would help to reduce stress, anxiety as well as maintain optimum hormonal levels. Therefore, concentrating on being healthy is more necessary than reducing weight.
3.
The three questions, which can be asked to Yana, are—
· ‘Which diet preference do you have animal based, vegan or vegetarian?’
· ‘Are there any metabolic issues you may have that could hinder fat loss or exercises?’
· ‘Will you be able to restrict yourself to a specified diet plan for specified time period?’
Asking such questions will clear the physical health scenario of Yana. Further, answer to the second question would determine whether she should be consulting a general practitioner (GP) specialist or not.
4.
Yana’s dietary record can be accurately kept by recording her food intake and calculating the calories intake per day. Noticing and recording her physical exercise, distance walked or run per day, and weight measurement per week can give a detailed report on her dieting plan. Proper diet plan will have to be provided to her and a calorie calculator mobile application such as ‘My fitness pal’ can also be suggested to her in order to keep track of her meals and total calorie intake. Further, a tabular recording of her calorie intake vs. calories burnt in the workout would be required in order to determine the expected progress.
5.
The five Australian Dietary guidelines are—
· Guideline 1- To achieve and maintain healthy weight by being physically active and having nutritious food for gaining energy
· Guideline 2- Everyday plan for nutritious food
· Guideline 3- Limiting unhealthy food
· Guideline 4- Support and encourage
east feeding
· Guideline 5- Care for food and keep it safely.
The Guideline 1 is applicable in case of Yana because she wants to reduce weight.
6.
Yana is a healthy young woman who wants to reduce 6 kg of weight within 4 weeks. A strict dietary plan may be required for her with adequate physical exercise. She may be given a plan according the Guideline 1 of Dietary guidelines. A proper record of her metabolism would be required with special emphasis to her insulin levels, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, haemoglobin and much more.
