Brief Overview of the Case Study
During the last academic year, we came across a male student with learning disabilities. As it is common with individuals with a learning disability, the student displayed ‘behaviour that challenges’. His problem posed a significant impediment, when we were dealing with him during the class time. The issue was observed for the first time, when my associate asked him to apologise to his fellow classmate for beating him with a ruler. While on one hand, he refused to apologise, on the other hand, he started screaming aggressively and pushing the desks and chairs. We both observed similar kinds of aggressive behaviour for a few days, after which we took the help of our school psychologist in order to understand the real issue. After a long discussion with the school psychologist, we found out about his recent past where he lost his family in Lebanon. Being new to the school, we did not have detailed accounts of the students. However, we unearthed that he has been suffering from learning disabilities for quite some time, and that it aggravated after he lost his family. Although he loves sports, he does not approach anyone due to communication problems.

We also learned the co
ect way of looking at ‘behaviour that challenges’ as a situation where we need to fix the ‘environment’ rather than the ‘person’....
