Introduction:
Eastman Kodak offers digital photography and printing product and service portfolio across fifty
countries worldwide. The company operates three business activities with Graphics
communication segment accounting for 45% (2009: 35.7%) of group revenues in 2011. Graphics
communication segment is one of the leading and fastest emerging business activities for Kodak
encompassing digital printing, commercial inkjet printer and electro photographic product
portfolio
What factors motivated Kodak to change its organizational architecture?
Increased competition made Kodak lose its profits and the power it had in the film production
industry for several years. Drastic advancement in technology in the film production industry
and higher quality product by the competitors made progress of Kodak tougher day by day. The
entry of new products to market by competitors at a faster pace compared to the timing of
product provided by the industry in the past. Deterioration of stock price of Kodak to an all-time
low price shocked the management to a greater extent and the market share of Kodak was falling
down at a higher rate within a short span of time. Inabilities of Kodak management to beat the
strong competition lead to an all-time low performance of the organization. Availability of new
products in the market by competitors was made easier by the usage of enhanced communication
facility, efficient design capabilities and latest robotics technology. Decision making authority
was delegated only to the upper management to control the operations and improve the
