The Sunset Limited and Spiritual Trauma 
The Sunset Limited is a stage play written by Cormac McCarthy. Later on a film was made 
by the same name. The film has only two characters, Black and White. The film is just a 
dialect between these two. They both present two different belief and thinking. Black 
presents light while White presents dark side of the life. White tries to jump in front of a train 
to commit suicide but Black catches him and stop him to do so. Finally, he brings White to 
his apartment and a verbal wresting of thought takes place between them.      
White is a professional intellectual and this is the reason why Black calls him 
“Professor”. White cleverly strings his words together to present his thoughts. They debate on 
the very existence of God and Black. Black completely believes in God while White does 
not.
