Introduction
Nursing retention has been vocalized among the healthcare professionals as one of the major issues that have emerged over the course of past three decades. Several studies in the past have been conducted to measure the potential sources of nursing turnover and they have developed insights about it. In this context, the following is the article whose critique is done by using Holland and Rees model with a view to analyse how nursing retention and cost effectiveness have affected the North Carolina. Focus
At first, it is significant to note here that the focus of Yin and Cheryl (2013) in the article entitled A Literature Review Of Nursing Turnover costs is related to the global concern of nursing turnover. The issue of retaining highly qualified nurses is more like some challenge to healthcare systems that they have to deal with on consistent bases. The issue has affected the measurement of efficacy model on financial grounds too as well as upon the concepts of NMC code of ethics. The professionals are said to be accountable for their actions, as per the NMC code of ethics but still, by switching their jobs from one sector to another, their behavioural approach is questioned.
Background
Yin and Cheryl (2013) argue that retaining of nursing professionals is becoming financially burdensome to several healthcare systems across globe. The approach of the researchers is quite engaging in terms of presenting the background of the issue. At global level, the problem of nursing turnover has increased by 30% in the past two decades which implies that the qualified nursing staffs (one out of three) quit the job due to several reasons. Their quitting of job can be categorised as part of their professional profile and work ethics but at the same time, it affects the cost management of the healthcare system; not only they have to deal with the disbursement of the previous dues of the old nursing staff leaving their job but also they spend a great deal of financial assets to ensure that their workforce strength remains balanced. This serves as the major cause of putting that extra pressure on the operational management of the healthcare systems across globe.
Aim
The aim of the present study is to find out the relation of nursing turnover and how it has been approached by researchers in the past. The question of nursing turnover has affected the working of healthcare system for a long period of time, however, it has not been put to the proper research framework, as per the conceptualization of the subject. Yin and Cheryl (2013) take up this objective of finding out what evidence based practices are applied so far to understand the concerns related to the nursing turnover and how they should be addressed in terms of developing cost effectiveness within the healthcare systems.
