Background of the Study
The Health care industry is sensitive and human-oriented because of the involvement of different aspects of human behavior. There are several factors which affect the practices of people in this industry such as unpredictability, uncertainty, high cost, involvement of technology, differences in need of each activity and operations (Heilmann, 2010, p XXXXXXXXXXIt is crucial to understand the need of different management styles in the acute health care industry in terms of gender and disciplining employees. Differences in management style, due to differences in the personalities of males and females are noted to have direct and indirect effect on the organizational practices and employees behavior. These differences also affect management style in the health care industry to ensure discipline among employees.
Conflicts in the management team would have a severe impact for the stakeholder. Both environmental, and personality aspects are integrated into the health care industry to manage conflicts and indiscipline (Leah, 2005, p XXXXXXXXXXAccording to Kottler and Carlson (2009), management style of individual affect different factors such as traits, personality, situation, group approaches, perception as well as industry types and culture. Statement of the Problem
In the acute health care industry, it is imperative that health care organizations have highly trained and supportive nursing staff. Employees have to work in various kinds of environments under different management styles so that they can improve their patient care services and ensure to maintain discipline. Although the differences in management styles due to gender differences have been observed by several authors, it is still a controversial issue for the industry to understand the implication of differences in management style and gender for employee discipline. The focus of this study will be in two hospitals of Bakersfield California to examine the differences of employee disciplinary practices between male and female managers within Acute Health Care Hospitals.
According to the available literature and data, attention to the issue of management style in terms of gender and its impact on discipline of employees has not been explored in depth. [AG1]
Several studies have been focused on management and leadership style of individuals in terms of job satisfaction, and labor relationship, (Shadare & Chidi, 2011; Melero, 2004; Paton 2002)
Research Questions
  1. What types of management styles are adopted by managers in health care industry?
  2. Does the managerial styles to maintain discipline among employees for men and women different in acute health care industry?
  3. What are the implications of differences in managerial styles to manage discipline in acute health care industry?[AG2]

Research Hypothesis Statements

  1. There is a significant relationship between management style and employee discipline between male and female managers within acute healthcare industry.
  2. There is a significant difference in management style affecting the working behavior and practices of health care employees.
Purpose of the Study
This study is based on the evaluation of different management styles, and will be conducted with the aim of critically analyzing the relationship of different management style on the employee discipline level, so that the health care industry can manage its activities and goals with high integrity and commitment. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the implications of different management styles of male and female managers how it influence employees discipline among health care employees and enhance their level of commitment and productivity. Design and Procedure
The study will be carried out in two acute care hospitals in Bakersfield. Simple random sampling method will be used (Cooper & Schindler, XXXXXXXXXXThe Researcher will study managers with more than 3 years experiences and target 30 people to be a part of the study. The Researcher will use analytical method [AG3]to test hypothesis through Spearman correlation test and evaluate the responses from the health care professionals. The questionnaire will be classified under four main categories such as personal traits, environmental situation, group approach, and individual goals.[AG4] Independent variable will be different management style and dependent variable will be employee discipline. The collected data will be recorded through different codes and compiled to avoid discrimination and modification of results. The categories will be based on different styles of management. Significance of the Study
The significance of this study is aligned with the health care industry, general management practices, and professionals of human resources management. This study is noteworthy for the health care managers to understand how they can influence the employee behavior in terms of discipline and understand the reasons that male and female have different management style. This would improve the commitment and productivity of the employees. Thus, this study is significant because it facilitates the professionals in health care industry to adopt an adequate management style according to the differences in gender to ensure high level of discipline among employees.
This study provides additional contribution in the extensive range of literature review based on differences on management style of male and female. This research will be significant for many professionals in various industries. Limitations of the Study
The aim of this study is to examine the differences of employee disciplinary practices between male and female managers within Acute Health Care Hospitals. A high level of discipline in the health care industry can be established and knowledge about the required management style in health care industry can be gained. One of the limitations of this study will be the sample size and population. Manager with less than one year of experience will not be included in the study. The study is limited to only two hospitals in Bakersfield. It is assumed that participants will give honest and adequate responses, but lack of their interest and time to complete the survey might affect the credibility of their responses.
