Introduction
Theory and perceptions about
inging in equality in society differ from place to place, however, the universal goal of supporting the individuals having disability remains the same; it is to make efforts to establish norms or to follow the guidelines to
ing them to the mainstream society. Workplace based harassment or bullying is one of such reasons that source from the disability of the individuals (Carey et al., 2018).
People tend to pursue different ways to ensure that their biases are kept intact with regard to show disrespect to the disability of someone. The following is the case analysis of Mary, a veteran professional chef at a restaurant who has been diagnosed with dementia and she is struggling to find her place in the restaurants. The framework, insightful activities and coordination of her with the expert is developed in this analysis.
1. Framework of Practice and Needs of the Client
At first, it is significant to note here that the perception of considering disabled individuals as some kind of homogenous group is inco
ect; though they have variety of disabilities on mental and physical grounds, it does not categorize them as some different community, which cannot be a part of the mainstream society. The framework of helping disabled people at workplace is driven from the ideology of giving equal opportunities through employment as every disabled person has skills and at times, these skills are comprehensive enough to take the positions in organizations that normal people can have.
At the same time, the employment ratio, if it is encouraged for disabled individuals, gives opportunities to provide benefits designed for disabled people on behalf of the government policies. It is easy to recognize and trace the disabled persons working in different criteria of the organizations who are disabled mentally or physically. This framework is developed under the guiding principle of Disability Discrimination Act of 1992 where keeping a disabled individual from being proper employed is reckoned as unlawful. To achieve the holistic growth of the society, therefore; it is necessary to
ing all community members to the mainstream society and it should not affect the course of progress, if some of the community members are physically or mentally disabled. Even if they are, they must be provided support and coordination to lead their life with respect and personal dignity. It is implied that there is no space for racial or disability based prejudices of normal people with regard to the progress of disabled individuals at social or economic level (Douglas & Bigby, 2020).
Based on the observations made above, there are some specific needs and expectations of Mary, the client selected for developing support framework at workplace. She has been identified as suffering from dementia since last five years. Before this unfortunate diagnosis, she used to work as a renowned chef in one of the well-known restaurants in the outskirts of Sydney. However, due to the initial impressions of the mental disability, she began taking complaints on behalf of the customers as well as on behalf of the fellow staff that she would forget specific instructions and it would end up in low quality food delivered to the customer (Bigby et al., 2017).
In order to sustain her financial condition and cost of the treatment, Mary has tried in several restaurants not only in Sydney but also in other adjacent regions. Due to the lack of support given through framework of disability, she is not yet advised through a policy guide or she is not yet placed under the supervisions of framework expert so that she can have support to confront dementia as her mental disability. At the same time, she is not working any longer due to her wrong image in the restaurants as she has to mention that she is suffering from dementia and due to this, no restaurant is now ready to hire her in spite of knowing her exceptional cooking skills.
Cu
ently, Mary is in need of some policy advisor, expert of the support framework for disability and proper medication so that her condition does not change rapidly. She also requires consistent monitoring of her mental status and a formal employment as well where she will receive guidance of the expert to manage her work. It is more like developing the support program for her that is driven from her present condition and determination of the future course of action, which will lead to positive results. This is evident that her rights to work in the restaurants are cu
ently compromised and it must be one of the primary concerns of the expert that she gets employment as her basic right of earning.
2. Key Risk Factors
As per the precise observation of case of Mary, there are multiple levels of risk factors, which must be covered during the development of support framework. Her priority is to find a suitable workplace (restaurant) where the discriminatory values for disabled individuals do not exist; it is complicated to provide her with the opportunity to work and at the same time, to deal with her condition of dementia. Her present economic condition is average, which implies that she requires financial support, which can be done only through providing her proper employment.
Additionally, if socio-cultural as well as family impressions are to be examined, Mary is an individual woman who has nominal support given on behalf of her family; her husband died when she was 44 years of age. Thus, the entire financial responsibility to earn came to her only. She has two sons and both of them are settled in United States. They seldom visit their mother, which leaves her alone and mostly isolated in her home. It implies that there is none to take care of her daily needs.
She requires the support on the grounds of her socialization with others because a long period of isolation has made her condition of dementia complicated though; she has tried very hard to keep herself engaged in her passion, which is cooking. She is actively working for various restaurants for over past fifteen years. She even has run the home delivery for a while but due to the lack of resources at financial level, it did not work well for her. In the context of examining her...
