SCENARIO FOR DIGITAL PRESENTATION. Formative assessment.
SCENARIO FOR DIGITAL PRESENTATION. Formative assessment.
Tom and Mary lived together in their three bedroom semi-detached house on Plum
Lane in the Bu
oughs. They had been ma
ied for over 40 years, they had a son, and
enjoyed a good life until recently. Two years years ago, Mary was diagnosed with
dementia and recently died from Covid-19. Tom who now lives alone has been going
through a period of sadness, coming to terms that Mary will no longer be around.
Tom is 70 years old, and he has just been admitted to the Accident and Emergency
Department of the local hospital. Following several investigations, Tom was
transfe
ed to a medical ward.
His son who lives nea
y, is wo
ied that Tom is not answering his phone and visited
him. He found him sitting in a chair, staring at the television in the lounge. He looked
like he has neglected himself, he not had a shave for a number of days and was
wearing his pyjamas. He appeared to have sunken eyes and his skin was flushed
and reddish. His son tried to speak with him, but he was quiet and withdrawn. Looking
around the house, the son could smell a strong odour of urine. His medication for
lood pressure was in the container on the table which was full. His daughter lives in
Birmingham and has not visited Tom for ages.
The son tried to stand Tom up to wash him, but Tom appeared to have a weakness
on one side, hence unable to get up. He went into the kitchen, only to find the fridge
empty. The son became very concerned and rang for an ambulance. The paramedic
felt it was necessary to take him to the hospital.

Dear Students,
Here are some Frequently Asked Questions drawn up to help you!

1. When is the submission date for the Summative Digital na
ated Powerpoint presentation?
Submission date is 21st April 2022

2. Do I have to bother submitting this one now or should I just leave it and do the MCQ’s
instead?
Both components must each be passed with 40% for you to progress into year two, therefore it is not an
option. If you fail to submit assessments on time this will affect your grade release, and your progression on
the programme. However, if you go to Questions 10, 11, 12, and 13 these answer questions around
difficulty.

3. When will the submission boxes open for the Summative Digital na
ated Powerpoint
presentation on Kaltura
The submission for the Summative Digital na
ated Powerpoint presentation on Kaltura will open on the 14th
April XXXXXXXXXX00am and will close on April 21st XXXXXXXXXX00pm sharp.

How many submission boxes are there?
There are is one submission one for the Kaltura video

4. What is the assessment ?
This summative assessment is a digital presentation of the application of two of the scientific concepts
studied to field of practice. This represents 60% of the summative marks for this. The presentation style for
this summative assessment is a Kaltura na
ated power point lasting 15 minutes. This will be submitted
y clicking on the Summative Digital Presentation via Kaltura link which is on the Assessment and
Feedback section of my learning NIP XXXXXXXXXXFeedback on this assessment will be online in turnitin within 15
days of the submission date.

5. How will the summative assessment be assessed?
The summative assignment will be assessed on how it meets the following learning outcomes:

Introduction
The presentation addresses the psychological principle of the nervous system that is incorporated for the case of Tom mentioned in the given scenario. However, discussion will illustrate the causes that imbalance the nervous system and focus on the treatment. At the same time, the presentation also included the discussion of different phases of stresses that are required to maintain balance and approach the role of nurses on it.
LO2
Physiological Principle of Nervous System
The central nervous system is constructed by the combination of spinal cord and
ain. However, the nervous system is composed of autonomous and somatic nervous systems. Moreover, the motor and sensory signals from and to the central nervous system are transmitted by the somatic system of nerves. Furthermore, the scientific data asserts that the prior function of the nervous system is to communicate and control the information from and to the
ain throughout the body. In this context, the sensory receptors play a major role to ca
y on information throughout the body (Billman, 2020).
It receives information from the environment and input is sent to the
ain and central nervous system. In this context, several causes such as accidents, trauma, injuries and low blood pressure of blood, wrong medication and mental health issues such as anxiety disorders or depression can cause imbalance in the nervous system as it inte
upts the transmission of information or signals between body and central nervous system.
Several factors can be included that could help to balance the nervous system such as vestibular rehabilitation, therapies and balance restrained exercises (Zambusi and Ninkovic, 2020). Apart from this, a right diet and enhancing...
