Introduction
The political impacts and influences on “Aged Care” will be discussed in this assignment. Ageing is an emerging and trending global issue as it puts substantial impact on economic and social growth of the country. According to the report of national census of 2016, one in six people in Australia are aged over 65. As studies say that in a few decades, the fertility rate will decrease whereas the population ageing will be tremendously high, Australian society will have a dramatic change in terms of ageing population (Faulkner, Feist & Lewis, 2016).
1. Formation of Public Policy in Aged Care Sector & Key Influencers in Policy Decisions
With ageing, people tend to lose physical, mental and economic sustainability. Therefore, in order to keep the overall growth of the country unaffected, sustainable and long-term care facilities will be required for this upcoming social change. However, a
oad political and policy-relevant and multidisciplinary directions to advance in
inging change in the policies for aged care can be helpful to make them physically healthy, socially and financially independent, as well as helpful for the society.
Department of Health Australian Government is the main authority to regulate, providing fund and operate the Aged Care Act 1977 for aged care facilities. In the country, people of age over 65, and 50 in case of Indigenous Australian, are provided care support when they are no longer able to live independently (Legislation, 2012). They can be physically unfit, challenged, or financially not able to survive on their own. The Australian Government provides fund to cater the care for at home, in communities, nursing homes, in institutional care facilities or residential care facilities.
The care is provided to the aged people on a subsidised cost. The subsidy is calculated by Aged Care Funding Instrument. The Aged care Regional, Rural & Remote Infrastructure Grant received an amount of $40 million from Australian Government funding (My Aged Care, 2019). National Aged Care Advocacy Program gives free, confidential and independent advocacy support to have for government-funded service. The various policies to cover aged care are described in Community Visitors Scheme policy guides, National Aged Care policy guide program. These guides provide detailed descriptions on the policies and services covered under them (Australian Government, 2018).
The policy-based facilities, which are regulated under the act, are Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP), Residential care, and Flexible care. All these facilities are further classified according to the mode of services.
Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP): This provides basic support for living, at home or in communities. The people who want to access the service need to contribute for the fees and also gain benefits from the government for transportation, medical facility, nursing care, meals and house chores. According to Consumer Directed...
