A typical new automobile tire has a useable tread depth of 10mm. Assuming that the useable tread wears off after about 30,000 miles of use, how many molecular monolayers of material are removed each time the tire rotates against the pavement? You may assume uniform wear throughout the 30,000 mile process. Furthermore, assume that each molecular monolayer is 2A thick.

Problem
A typical new automobile tire has a useable tread depth of 10mm. assuming that the useable tread wears off after about
30,000 miles of use, how many molecular monolayer’s of material are removed each time the tire rotates against the
pavement? You may assume uniform wear throughout the 30,000 miles process. Furthermore assume that each
molecular monolayer is 2A0 thick.
Answer
Tread depth given = 10mm
Thickness of Molecular monolayer = 2 x 10-10 m
No of monolayer’s in 10mm tread depth of tire = 10 x 10-3/2 x 10-10
= 5 x 107 monolayer’s
Now we need to know in how many...
