A) The bent rod is supported at A, B and C by smooth journal bearings. Determine the magnitude of F2 which will cause
the reaction Cy at the bearing C to be equal to Zero. The bearings are in proper alignment and exert only force reaction
on the rod. Set F1= 300 Pound.
Solution
Given in the diagram;
F1 = 300lbs
Cy = 0
a = 1ft
= 4ft
c = 2ft
d = 3ft
e = 5ft
α = 300
β = 450
θ = 450
Look in to the diagram above to understand the quantities given in your diagram,
Now if we draw a free body diagram of the above problem so this will look like,
Here we need to make initial guesses of force at points A , B and C so
Ax = 100lbs
AY = 200lbs
BY = 300lbs
BZ = 400lbs
F2 = 500lbs
Cz = 600lbs
Now in equili
ium conditions from the free body diagram we have
Solving for Ax , AY, BX, BY, Cx and CY from matrix...
