Your boss was recently selected to speak to a congressional committee on terrorism. In preparation for his testimony, he asked you to write a memo of 2–4 paragraphs responding to the following question he will be asked:

Explain and discuss the Patriot Act and the recent laws targeting terrorists.
Should terrorism remain a separate offense, or do the crimes previously in place address terroristic acts sufficiently?
Some maintain that the Patriot Act crossed the line between individual rights and societal needs that transcend the Constitutional parameters. Do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Make sure to cite sources to support your work and substantively respond to the posts of classmates. Be sure to cite all references in APA format.

Terrorism relates to the use of threats or acts of violence used to coerce or intimidate people. In recent times, terrorism has been seen as a tool to create a state of fear especially for political purposes. This in turn has led to many countries especially the US to implement laws that are aimed at combating incidences of terrorism. There have also been subsequent amendments that have been created, some of which are still being tabled for discussions (Townshend, 2002).
One of the major Terrorism laws is the Patriot act that was enacted in 2001. The Patriot act sought to strengthen and unite Americans after the 9/11 terror attacks on the twin towers in New York. It is an act that seeks to provide the appropriate tools that are needed to obstruct or intercept acts aimed at terrorism.
