Introduction
This Learner Guide has been developed to support you as a resource for your study
program. It contains key information relating to your studies including all the skills and
knowledge required to achieve competence.
What is this unit about?
This Learning Resource will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to participate
in safe work practices to ensure your own health and safety, and that of others in work
environments that involve caring directly for clients. It has a focus on maintaining safety of
the worker, the people being supported and other community members.
What will I achieve?
By satisfactorily completing this competency it is expected that you will be able to:
• Reflect on your perspectives
• Appreciate diversity and inclusiveness, and their benefits
• Communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and situations
• Promote understanding across diverse groups.
As with all Vocational Education and Training (VET) units, each unit of competence has a set
of elements and each element has a set of performance criteria. This information outlines the
asis of what you must be able to demonstrate to successfully complete this unit of
competency.
