Racism is being recognised as a major contributor to health inequities on a global scale. There is a health disparity in Australia between Aboriginal and To
es Strait Islander peoples and other Australians. Despite efforts to close the gap, inequalities in health persist. The purpose of this scoping study is to investigate the impact of racism and discrimination on the physical and mental health of Aboriginal Australians.
Definitions
Discrimination
Discrimination is the unfair and inequitable treatment of people based on their race, ethnicity, or gender (Kairuz et al., 2021).
Racism
Racism is defined by Berman and Paradies (2010) as the manifestation of racist beliefs, racist emotions, racist behaviours and racist practises that sustain or increase disparity of opportunity among ethnic-racial groups. Racism has both direct and indirect health consequences, according to research (Markwick et al., 2019).

Aboriginal society was a semi-nomadic civilisation that prioritised family, community and country bonds above the formation of a ragrarian society. Spiritual ancestors who travelled throughout the te
