Topic 1: promote a nutritious environment for children
    Describe:
What did you see, experience, hear or read? Focus and reflect on one example
It was a usual day at the childcare, crying, ba
ling sounds of infants was everywhere. It was lunchtime and the children need to be fed at appropriate time. It was Monday and therefore according to the timetable normal veggies and some cereal will have to be served keeping in mind all the macro and nutrients that every child at every age needs. However, a child who did not like them refused to have it. All other babies were eating the food, as they liked it while this child refused it may be because he did not like the taste.

According to me, babies and infants must be provided with the food that they like to eat i
espective of the fixed timetable or the meals. This is because babies are moody and therefore, they prefer to eat whatever they like and will not accept anything if given forcefully. I was not surprise when I have to listen that the specific baby did not like today’s meal and is not eating it. Instead, I was surprised to see that the other employee were sensitive regarding this issue because if the child is not accepting a specific food, because, children should always be provided with a substitute that have macro and micronutrients comparable to the cu
ent meal.

· I need to remember to take care of every child’s eating preferences.
· Next time I will discuss it with other staff members to plan meal substitutes for such scenarios.
· I really want to learn more about the preferences of infants regarding food.
· This experience has taught me that fixed meal plans needs to make dynamic while dealing with infants and babies.
· Next time I will endeavour to provide healthy and nutritious substitutes to the infants.
· This has taught me that infants have highly variable food preferences and every childcare need to be prepared accordingly.
· My readings on the Healthy Eating Advisory Service guidelines has shown me that food provided at child care needs be consistent in terms of recommended quality and nutrients i
espective of the nature of food which can be dynamic.

Topic 2: Promote a healthy environment for children
    Describe:
What did you see, experience, hear or read? Focus and reflect on one example
Children’s basic needs and necessities need to be addressed and taken care of in order for the environment of the childcare to be healthy. I was surprised and shocked as well that the staff members were not promoting a healthy environment by cleaning the toys and other things with which they play. This can lead to diseases among children, further they were also not educating children regarding basic hygiene such as washing hands, not putting things into their mouth and other healthy habits. Further, the floor and the carpet upon which they were playing and sitting was not properly cleaned and sanitized.

According to me promoting a healthy and hygienic environment at the childcare is one of the basic liabilities as wells necessities. However, while observing the scenarios where the children were putting unhealthy thing into their mouth, which were not, cleaned prior giving to them I was surprised as well as disappointed. This reflected a lack of proactive behaviour from the staff members. Further, upon pointing out such issue staff members did not took any special efforts to clean the su
oundings and environment instead they took away the toys which is a disrespectful behaviour towards children. I did not feel good because it is a sensitive issue and child’s basic needs and healthy requirements must be respected.

Cu
ent experience made me realize that he childcare needs serious efforts in order to be improved and therefore, to maintain the healthy su
ounding I will have a discussion with the staff members so that the su
oundings could be cleaned with natural cleaners or sanitizers. Further, I also need to educate the infants regarding not to put things or toys into their mouth because they are unhealthy. I will also try to incorporate the child safety guidelines as mentioned by Department of Education, South Australia. This experience has taught me that child’s health is also dependent upon the su
oundings in which they are kept and therefore, it requires some extra efforts.

Topic 3:Promote a safe environment for children
    Describe:
What did you see, experience, hear or read? Focus and reflect on one example
A Thursday afternoon it was, while we were taking care of some new babies and old ones as usual. Childcare was filled with the laughing and crying noises of infants and new babies. Suddenly is noticed that the coffee mug from which a fellow staff was having coffee fell and
oke. Meanwhile the
oken glass pieces spread everywhere and some even got close to area where babies were sitting. Infants that could crawl rushed towards it to have a peek while we have to pull them away to keep them safe from the glass pieces, which could have proven hazardous for them.

It can be very challenging to look up to all the infants especially when they can crawl and this puts an extra liability upon the staff members to keep an extra check upon their activities. However,
eaking of cup here was a very casual scenario but it could have proven dangerous if the infants were not pulled back from the
oken scene. I feel it is important to keep things such as sharp edges away from the floor or any other place that is within the reach of infants. This is majorly because, infants get attracted to anything they encounter while crawling and therefore in order to make the su
oundings safe for them it is a necessary step.

Child safety is must and is at utmost priority and therefore in order to maintain the su
oundings safe, I will have a discussion with the staff members to use non-
eakable utensils such as mugs and cups. Further, I will also ask them to keep an extra look on the floor as well as upon the activities of the infants who can crawl. This experience has taught and it has awaken the safety aspect, which we may have kept aside for some time due to responsibilities of so many kid. However, every staff member will need to endeavour in order to make sure of children’s safety.
