WAN stands for wide area network that connects to smaller networks; they allow localized networks to talk with each other from far distances. It also allows communication and the sharing of information between devices anywhere in the world. This is what would be used in order to expand our network across all the other countries that is under the contract, WAN also has the capability to connect offices on site, remote employees, for students at a university to do their research for their studies, banks, and ATMs. In order to connect all these devices, it will have to be connected either through wire or wireless, this is either done through broadband internet and multiprotocol label switching with the use of data-forwarding technology in order to control the traffic flow and connection speeds. In order to protect the WAN, the use of a virtual private network is used in order to create a secure network while on the network. (Fortinet n.d.)
Remote access technology provides the capability to gain access to networks outside of the main network normally used. With the use of a modem, it can send digital signals from the computer to analog signals through the phone lines and back out of the other modem with digital signals. Along with that the universal serial bus allows up to 127 devices to chained together with the use of one USB port. Through the use of software requirements for a workstation it will need to be updated in the device manager, also Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Internet Packet eXchange (IPX), Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP), Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) (Skminhaj 2014)
