Why would a health care clinic or hospital need a health information manager?
Health care clinics and hospitals need a health information manager because of the severe consequences behind not securing patients information and confidentiality. The benefits of having a HIM can serve many purposes. HIM will give the benefit of taking the load off of the organization by securing and serving the accuracy of patients records. MIN prides in taking the privacy act law seriously while keeping all documents private and accessible to those in need of them such as doctors, patients, POA, lawyers and etc. Having a HIM could save the organization the hassle of trying to balance both digital and traditional health records.
The HIPPA law is one of the biggest law in the medical field. Protecting patients information by assuring that their information is private and secured from identity theft and fraud is very important. Not only will a MIN give the security and guarantee of that they will also be very analytical detailed, while taking accountability of making sure that all information is accurate while providing quality healthcare to all patients. Keeping the facilities running smoothly so that information can be provided quickly, responsibly, efficiently, and with integrity.

Healthcare technology places a vital role in patient care, improving patients treatments and resources, health information managers are a key in component in maintaining medical records, privacy, security and record completion.
Health care clinics or hospital need a health information manager because their role is to maintain HIPPA covered entities to ensure patient information privacy, security, delivery and compliance with government regulations. In addition, health information managers are essential in communication, Electronic Health Records (EHR) and documentation.
Physician and healthcare providers need accurate and timely patients information for decision making, treatments, plan of care and over all provide quality care to the patients, health information managers support and manage all these data so it can be used to improve health care quality.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) was passed in 1996. The Privacy Rule standards address the use and disclosure of individuals’ health information (known as “protected health information”) by entities subject to the Privacy Rule. These individuals and organizations are called “covered entities.” The Privacy Rule also contains standards for individuals’ rights to understand and control how their health information is used. A major goal of the Privacy Rule is to ensure that individuals’ health information is properly protected while allowing the flow of health information needed to provide and promote high quality health care and to protect the public’s health and well-being. The Privacy Rule strikes a balance that permits important uses of information while protecting the privacy of people who seek care and healing (CDC.gov). Health information managers role is to be in compliance with HIPPA regulations, additionally duties include enforcement of privacy and security policies and regulations. A common threat to EHR are cyber breaches, health information managers must implement different safeguard to safeguard PHI and EHR. Furthermore, Report compliance data to external agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS ).
In conclusion, health information managers are a vital to health care facilities because their duties are to maintain traditional and electronic medical records, privacy, security and record completion which are essential for patients quality of care.
