Case Study: Scenario |
You are employed as support worker in an aged care facility. As part of the diversional therapy activities a number of residents attend art and craft classes. You are supporting some of the residents attending these classes. At your table, there is some lively discussion while the residents complete the craft activities. You have two (2) Australian female residents (Sarah & Josie) that are loud and outspoken. Josie is visually impaired, and uses a cane when walking. Sarah and Josie frequently make very negative generalisations about other residents from other cultures. Another participant is an Islamic Indonesian lady (Eliza), who is very reserved. Eliza also struggles with making herself understood at times as English is her second language. These comments that are continually demeaning about other people are making her feel uncomfortable. She is thinking of withdrawing from the activity all together. |
