PURPOSE OF TASK
This task will assess your knowledge against the following units of competencies.
SISFFIT013 Instruct exercise to young people aged 13 to 17 years
SISXCCS003 Address client needs
SISFFIT016 Provide motivation to positively influence exercise behaviour
SISXRES001 Conduct sustainable work practices in open spaces

The Adolescent Trainer Case Study requires students to conduct research and consultations with various
personnel in order to design, implement and evaluate an appropriate program which is specific to the needs of a
young adult/adolescent client.
Your client can be from friends or family or other persons who you already know. As the task requires you to
interview a Personal Trainer, Instructor or coach who delivers training to a teenager, you may choose to ask
this person if you could take part in one of their exercise sessions under their guidance.
Sessions can be conducted over skype if you need to access someone interstate or overseas.
CRITERIA
The assessment task will demonstrate your ability to:
• Demonstrate knowledge of effectively training younger adults and adolescents within personal training
• Effectively communicate and undertake client consultation to effectively induct and appraisal your client
• Undertake fitness testing and appraisal and session delivery to industry standard
• Review and evaluate performance as well as professional practice
ASSESSMENT TASK INSTRUCTIONS
• This case study is an extensive task. Students are required to undertake 65 hours study to ensure an
adequate response.
• Assignments must be typed.
• The assessment is in 6 tasks. You must attempt all tasks and questions.
• Complete the ACSF cover sheet provided by your trainer and submit it with your response.
• Ensure that you read the assessment criteria on the reverse of this form. Students are advised to
complete the task in consultation with these criteria to ensure a comprehensive response.
• You may use your course notes and any other resources available to you.
• The work you submit must be your own. You will be required to sign the sheet confirming that the work
you have completed is your own. Plagiarising, copying and cheating will result in an automatic fail and will
equire resubmission of the assessment. Your assessor reserves the right to quiz you on your answer
post submission to confirm the authenticity of your work.
Due Date – The assessment must be submitted in the last scheduled class in week 8.

REVIEW SESSION
In addition to the submission documents requested, students may be asked to attend a review session where
they will discuss and demonstrate elements of this case study with a trainer.
Students should be ready to discuss or demonstrate with your trainer the following:
the rationale behind the exercise plan given to each client
how you assessed your clients for prior knowledge in the activities and for their learning style preferences
what factors were considered in planning
which assessments and screening questions were utilised and why
how progress was monitored
how you ensured client adheres to program
how you incorporated progressions within the exercise plan

TASK #1 – 1250 words Case Study / Scenario Part A
Task one has 3 (three) parts. You must complete all three parts. Consult the checklist before submitting your case
study in order to ensure you have completed all necessary information.
Answer the following questions regarding the case study scenario below
As a Personal Trainer, you have been approached by a group of 6 adolescents (3 males and 3 females)
aged 17 years old that would like to participate in small group training.
• They would like to train with you 4x per week, 2x indoor gym sessions and 2x outdoor sessions
over a 12-week period
• They all cu
ently playing mixed netball in an interschool’s competition
• Cu
ently they have good agility skills and flexibility, however, need to improve their repeated
sprint ability
• Their cu
ent training schedules consist of physical education classes at school that they
participate in twice per week consisting of a variety of sports and general aerobic
fitness
• Their specific goals are to improve their muscular endurance and anaerobic fitness so they can
perform better on the court
• They are looking for a challenge that utilizes various types of personal training methods
that they have not been exposed to before
• Keep in mind their study load is quite high as they are in year 11, so ensure you monitor their
stress levels throughout your time training with them
The group will have the following training schedule outside of school hours
