The term Wealth Maximization refers to the management of financial resources of the company with the motive of increasing the wealth of the shareholders of the company by increasing the share price of the company. The term Profit Maximization refers to management of the financial resources of the company with the motive of increasing the profitability of the company.
Even though the term Wealth maximization is focused on the long-term wealth generation for the shareholders of the company, it needs to make profit for the company to survive. Since if all the decisions of the company are taken considering the long-term benefits, it will be very difficult for the company to survive in the short-term. This is because the company needs to have enough cash earned through the profits to survive. Hence even when the objective of the company is to maximize the wealth maximization, the company needs to balance its objectives of wealth maximization and profit maximization so that the company is able to achieve enough profits to survive.
