(1) According to the authors I cited, social media outlets can be utilized to market healthy eating habits to children and young adults (Kent et al, XXXXXXXXXXStudies show that unhealthy food or the sugar beverages consumed by young people cause obesity. Analyzing usage of social media or applications to promote healthy diets and relevant platforms will assist to identify advertisement that encourage enrollment. Participants of this study were provided with unhealthy products such as fast foods and sugared beverages to compare to children with healthier diets. Research results indicated that children exposed to social media health education and dietary facts benefit from this type of marketing technique.
Additionally, marketing to the younger generation and appealing to their communication styles and consumerism depend on effective strategies such as benchmarking to identify their interests. We must work to understand the population which we serve including adolescent children, teens and young adults to encourage enrollment. In my opinion, one of the most important questions which should be addressed is, what are the younger people looking for in a health plan? Market exposure to the younger generation can be as easy as meticulously placing healthy foods in vending machines where they will be such as schools. Media platforms also include but are not limited to, television commercials, radio advertisements and YouTube.
