Your suggestion to look into problems and issues with WH&S in schools and universities is fine.  You may wish to choose to relate the topic to other Australian laws but that should depend on how much research you uncover and have available to consider - the more research and information you have, the more data there is to sort through to work out what you would/would not like to include in your assignment submission.


Just to update you on what needs to be done for the assignment.

Each one will need to discuss on their topic about WHS and use 2 case studies. REMEBER- 2000 words is not just about 2 case study. Carl has said that the words should be divided as following:
•    Around 800 words for 2 case study meaning, around 400 words for each X2= 800 words
•    Another 1000 words to describing WHS in your topic area.
•    Please don't describe about what WHS is as I will do that in the Introduction. Just talk about your topic area, e.g. WHS issues in universities and colleges
Guys each team member is to have their draft ready by next week. I have volunteered to do the compilation ONLY IF I have the drafts from you all  HANDED ON TIME. that is WEEK 6.

Also someone needs to volunteer to make PowerPoint slides for presentation as well.

A WHS Management Plan and WHS Policies and Procedures set out the safety arrangements and principles of a company which are to be observed by and its workers to ensure compliance with the WHS Act and to provide appropriate mechanisms for continuing consultation and management of WHS matters.

A WHS policy document ensures the health and safety of its workers (employees, contractors, labour hire workers, outworkers, apprentices, students or volunteers) while they are at work, and that the health and safety of other persons (e.g. visitors) is not put at risk from our operations. This is achieved by:
1.    providing and maintaining a healthy and safe work environment through the implementation of safe work practices, safe systems of work and the provision of safe plant and equipment; ensuring that workplaces under the control of are safe, without risk to health, and have safe means of access and egress;
2.    routinely consulting in order to maintain effective and cooperative relationships between and its workers, and with other duty holders, on health and safety matters in the workplace;
3.    reviewing, through appropriate mechanisms, the effectiveness of the safety measures taken

A company must be commitment to providing safe and healthy working environments for its workers. It includes:
•    providing relevant, up-to-date WHS information to all workers on matters such as workplace safety and their responsibilities;
•    providing expert assistance in WHS matters where necessary;
•    providing instruction and/or training in work processes where appropriate;
•    developing and implementing strategies which include workplace assessment, hazard identification, and appropriate remedial action to eliminate or control hazards; and
•     implementing and maintaining appropriate information, reporting and statistical systems
