1.0 Introduction
1.1 Overview of Project
Health care sector has adopted IoT at a very fast rate. Adoption of IoT with the advancements in wireless networks with the development of 5G services will help in the digital transformation of healthcare. It is expected that within the next 5 years billions of connected devices and billions of connected sensors will be supported by 5G wireless network. With IoT and 5G connectivity devices will be able to able to perform high level analytics and computations.
This is a boon for healthcare as medical research can be done along with diagnosing health conditions and providing treatment at a very fast rate. Several IoT enabled devices are already there in the health industry which includes implantable, wearable and stationary devices. Technological development in health care industry is tremendous. With the technological advancements patients can now be treated with smart devices with advanced sensors and data captured can be easily analyzed. For measuring the health conditions accurately IoT and fifth generation wireless network will be a great asset.
In the opinion of Brito (2016) applications such as IoT applications are based on tactile internet concept and require higher rates of data transfer which will be provided by 5G network services. As suggested by Li et al. (2015) IoT can be defined as a dynamic network which facilitates self configuration making use of standard communication and protocols which are interoperable.
1.2 Overview of Research Area
In the cu
ent scenario IoT technologies are not omnipresent because of the slower data speeds, connectivity problems and network congestion. With 5G wireless network all this could be mitigated. 5G services will help to
oadcast the data at faster rates and will help to maintain the connections despite of the network congestion which occurs frequently. This shall also make the management of IoT enabled health devices easier. Major problem with IoT solutions in the existing scenario is the use of slow speed networks for the processing of data. With the development of 5G network this issue will be solved making IoT solutions more effective and efficient. Apart from higher speed 5G network is capable of holding 100 times more connected devices per unit area as compared to 4G LTE network. 5G network has latency of only one millisecond.
With the improvements in technology IoT is also shifting its focus from applications at lower level to higher level applications. With advancements in IoT it is necessary to make changes in the structural design by shifting towards cognitive networks. In the near future 5G will expand at a very fast rate even to cover even the rural areas which help IoT function to exist in small towns and rural areas. Moreover health conscious people now want real time monitoring and treatment which will be possible with IoT enabled devices supported by 5G wireless network. It can be infe
ed that IoT has a vast prospective which will be supported by 5G network.
1.3 Aim of Research
The idea of 5G in IoT is not only to supply enormous
oadband however low latency and diverse results for different troubles. The new band will let wireless to do more, but the network will not only be for high
oadband solutions, but also for small data packets for IOT solutions along with low latency. The proposal following IoT is to contain numerous connected devices gathering data in concu
ently over a specific time. Nevertheless, the constant switch over of information will make a pull on the set-up and the battery life of the devices. The new wireless network will see a 90% reduction in network energy usage, with up to 10 years worth of battery life for low power IoT devices.
1.4 Research Question
By facilitating entirely latest applications whilst also gaining benefits from numerous IoT applications, a 5G proposal can have impact on many businesses together with automotive, leisure, cultivation, industrialized and Information Technology. The need of 5G also progresses in self driving cars, logistics, healthcare, smart cities and also retail. 5G and IoT collectively can aid in fetching each article on the step to the internet by making digital lookalike for them. If the amount of hardware associated devices is predictable to be in the billions, the prospective for normal buyer goods with digital lookalikes to be a part of the new Internet of Things is considerably more. Consumer products need not be constantly connected to the internet like hardware devices but will be able to send and receive information about themselves as connected smart products on event-based interactions with consumers and other entities through scanning, RFID readers, NFC taps and more. The cu
ent wireless infrastructure is not up to the task of managing so many products on the network, but 5G will make it possible. Smart Packaging and Digital Labels will transform the way retailers manage inventory and track logistics as well as provide a hotbed of innovation to use them as a means to creatively interact with consumers. This could be summarised as
What is the use of modern electronic devices in the healthcare industry?
How have Internet of Things and Fifth Generation contributed towards supporting different smart healthcare devices?
How are the smart devices proving themselves beneficial in the healthcare setting?
2.0 Background of Research Area
There is an enormous improvement in the field of technology and communication which has helped to improve the standard of healthcare services and medical facilities. In the opinion of Yuehong et al. (2016) accuracy of medical diagnosis and treatment has increased manifolds with the adoption of healthcare equipments which support modern technologies like IoT functions. These modern devices are now widely accepted in the healthcare industry because of their easy accessibility, real-time operations and accuracy. These days’ people are being more health conscious and their healthcare needs for technologically advanced devices which are fast and accurate is increasing at a very fats rate. With these demands traditional approaches being adopted in the healthcare industry have gradually started losing their importance. In this situation Internet of Things and 5G has come up like a lifeline to provide progressive tools to assist the healthcare industry to meet the needs and expectations of the masses by providing smart devices. Uses of smart devices for healthcare are gaining popularity and are not so established in present. There are many rumours and misconceptions regarding sensor-based healthcare devices among people which need to be sorted out. This research work emphasizes on smart devices in the health care sector based on the functions of Internet of Things and fast connectivity with 5G wireless network services.
3.0 Rationale for Research
With the increasing demand and use of smart devices in health care industry it is important to understand how wearable devices with advanced sensors can communicate and connect with each other with minimum latency.
As explained by Magsi et al. (2018) Internet of Things has the ability to allow the smart devices to ca
y out their functions in a remote location which must exist under the network architecture. IoT enabled devices require only short amount of data and have longer battery life. For devices with IoT functions to perform quickly and accurately it is important that network connections are fast and free form congestion which will be possible with the use of 5G services. Evolution of 5G has played a crucial role in the development of IoT enabled smart devices in the healthcare industry.
IoT requires fast connections and seamless connections as well as data transfer at a high speed for diagnosis and treatment of patients which can be made possible with 5G wireless network services. Cu
ently IoT services with smart devices are not omnipresent in the health industry mainly because of poor connectivity and slow data transfer rates. Evolution of 5G technology will act as a crucial element for digital transformation of the healthcare industry.
This research will help to gain an insight into the transformation of the health industry digitally through IoT enabled devices and 5G network connections. With the help of this research it is easy to understand that how devices with sensors which are either wearable or implantable which are used to transmit data related to medicine or health conditions can be used more accurately with fast network connections provided by 5G services. This shall help in the improvement of quality of diagnosis as well as treatment services. The information gathered shall be shared with multiple doctors electronically so that most effective treatment can be given to the patient. Moreover using IoT enabled health devices is a more cost effective option as well.
4.0 Problem Statement
Apart from slower connections and congested networks which are a hurdle to promote the use of IoT enabled health devices there are several other problem areas which need to be considered. Though IoT functions have...
