espective of social, cultural, religious and economic backgrounds. The article examines the indications, consequences, local policies and partnering in safeguarding through the case study of
Sam, a physical abuse victim.
A child learns to overcome fears, emotional stability and development of healthy relationships by experiencing one himself. A stable and sound relationship with his primary caregiver, mold the physical and mental attitudes of children. In contrast, children like Sam who are victims of abuses, begin to exhibit several unhealthy behaviors (Al Odhayani, Watson, & Watson 2013)
Signs and symptoms
Physical abuse is the process of inflicting pain on the child for once or on a regular basis. It may be through several acts of violence like shaking an infant vigorously, slamming or kicking the child, placing a hot rod on child’s bod and so on. Emotional and sexual harassment and neglect are also other forms of abuse. Negative responses like fear to touch, lack of obedience, extreme anger, withdrawal, depression, lack of response to physical pain are some of the indicators of abuse.
Symptoms like being strangely quiet, withdrawal from playing with other children or elders at the nursery, agitated behaviors when interacting with other fellow children indicate physical and/ or mental abuse. The fresh
uises on the right arm and neck add to the suspicion of Sam being a helpless victim of physical abuse.
Long-term effects
