Introduction    
    Social media is now a regular part of the daily lives of 99% of young people between the ages of 18 and 24. Due to their ability to quickly reach sizable audiences, social media platforms are useful tools for disseminating messages, particularly those that are related to health and wellbeing. The mental health of today's kids is a topic of special concern, since one in six of them are said to be struggling with conditions including anxiety and depression (Alonzo & Popescu, 2021). Social media platforms provide young people with a quick and private approach to obtain knowledge and advice on mental health issues. However, in recent years, the treatment of mental illness in youth-oriented social media content has come under scrutiny. Some people are wo
ied that social media sites could help to reinforce negative stereotypes, stigmatize mental health conditions, or even romanticize mental health struggles. For instance, Alruwaily et al.'s research (2020) discovered that young people commonly come across stigmatizing language while looking for information on mental health on social media sites. Other research has demonstrated that mental health-related social media content may oversimplify complex issues or even provide harmful advice.
    Understanding how mental health is portrayed in youth-oriented social media material is the goal of this study project. The specific study topic is, how is mental health issues portrayed in young people targeted social media material, and what messages are spread regarding mental health? A sample of social media content from Instagram and TikTok, two well-known social media sites, was analyzed for its content in order to provide an answer to this issue. The research concentrated on locating the main ideas and concepts presented in the material as well as any stigmatizing or damaging language employed. This study is relevant because it adds to the dialogue about how social media influences young people's attitudes towards mental health and because it may provide guidance for future initiatives to encourage good mental health on social media platforms. This research project's remaining sections are organized as follows: An overview of the most recent academic studies on social media and mental health is given in the literature review section. The steps taken in this study's content analysis are described in the section on methodologies. The important ideas and themes that came out of the study are presented in the results section along with illustrated examples. The discussion part talks about the study's shortcomings as well as the significance of the findings for further research, policy, and practice. The summary of the key findings, their consequences, and suggested future study areas are provided in the conclusion section.
