In Step 1:

  • Name the variables used in this analysis and whether they are categorical or continuous.
  • State a research question, null hypothesis, and alternate hypothesis for the independent samples t-test.
Step 2: Testing Assumptions:

Test for one of the assumptions of t-tests—homogeneity of variance.

  • Create SPSS output showing the Levene's test for equality variances. Run the Levene's test on the dependent variable test for the entire sample. Do not split the data up by gender before running the homogeneity test.

  • Interpret the Levene's test.

Step 1:
Name the four variables used in this analysis and whether they are categorical or continuous.
The four variables are as below:
· Gende
· GPA
Gender is categorical variable as it is having two categories male and female.
GPA is continuous as it can take unlimited number of values between the lowest and highest points of measurement.
State a research question, null hypothesis, and alternate hypothesis for the independent samples t-test.
The null and alternative hypothesis can be stated as below:
Null hypothesis: There is no significant difference in GPA between male and female.
Alternative hypothesis: There is significant difference in GPA between male and female.
Step 2:
Create SPSS output showing the Levene's test for equality variances. Run the Levene's test on the dependent variable test for the entire sample. Do not split the data up by gender before running the homogeneity test.
The hypotheses for Levene’s test are:
H0: the population variances of group 1 and 2 are equal
H1: the population variances of group 1 and 2 are not equal
The F-test statistic and the p-value for Levene’s is obtained as 0.095 and 0.758 which is greater than 0.05 level of significance. Hence the null hypothesis is not rejected and it can be concluded that the assumption of homogeneity of variances is supported.
