The Mexico-US border is a long stretch that crosses several land terrains and forms.  A variety of fences, barricades and barriers stand as a barrier separating the two countries, the lands of which were historically one, inhabited by a rich indigenous population. The Mexico-US border is first and foremost unique in that its history is that of a single land and a single people. In addition to this, the two countries are heavily interdependent with continuous migration, bi-national residents and a highly interdependent economy that is globally linked. 
The history of Mexico-US border shows that much of the borderlands were actually places inhabited by the American Indigenous population who resided and thrived in the area before colonization by the Spanish and the French. So the lands that are so cruelly divided today with fences were actually a unified place supporting growth and development of the original residents of the land.
