Sosome key terms to know – the current Congress is the sister colonies gathering together to essentiallytrying to assess how should they respond to the elevating pressures and issues ofBritainsrule.Because remember, at this point the colonies are just an extension of the world of Britain.Notice how they say their rights as Englishmen. (Sowhen they say Parliament, they are referring to what technically their current country is telling them what they should do.)
But John doesn’t want to just sit around and talk about things, (and not get anything done), because one big considerations of adulthood is the moral dilemma ofwhat should one do if your sense of what is right (on a personal level)is in conflict withwhat is right on an institutional level. You can see John wrestling with this because one of the themes from all this is, how do we get the two to meet.
Because to be fair, in defense ofthe southern colonieswho doesn’t want to go to war, it makes sense,it really makes sense of not wanting toenter intoit.
