Today's public tax policy structures  are far more complex and recession-proof than they were before the  Great Depression. However, the nature of this recession has forced public budget officers to classify important government functions with incomplete and volatile information and low cost.This is one of the few school communication services that has not been impacted by the current financial crisis. Many counties are eliminating whole services, decreasing staff, adding a slew of new duties, or foregoing tools and activities that have long been a part of the communications role.The fact that our district has less than two persons this year, combined with a reluctance to give up key communication activities, creates a tough balance in our district. In fact, owing to budget constraints in other areas, our office has added additional district student activity events to our schedule.
There are various places where we might seek inspiration. Staff from the district, parents, students, and members of the community are excellent places to begin. Energy savings, workload reduction, and input on services that must be safeguarded are all areas where changes might be made.
