The psychological process by which a manager or a leader in an organization inspires and encourage their subordinates and staffs to be more productive and work efficiently.

Managers need to understand the need of motivation to keep their employees satisfied, efficient, and happy so as to establish a better work environment.

Maslow/Herzberg Motivational Theory

Maslow’s Theory of Motivation:
People are motivated to do something so as to fulfil their basic needs.
The basic needs are: Physiological, esteem, love, safety and self-actualization
Maslow’s Theory of Motivation:
According to this theory, people are motivated to do something so as to fulfil their basic needs. The basic needs are: Physiological, esteem, love, safety and self-actualization. The urge to acquire such needs change in their behaviour and inspire them from inside to get motivated. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Need’s theory can be applied in organization which suggests that people’s behaviour differ from each other because their needs and motivation are different. According to this, a person’s highest level of motivation leads him to self actualization which is at the top of the hierarchy. Physiological needs are at the base, followed by safety, love and esteem.
Physiological needs include: Food, shelter, air, wate
Safety: A sense of security and protection
Love/ social: Friendship, intimacy
Esteem: Realisation of accomplishment
Self actualisation: Exploring own highest potential
