Your Leadership Abilities in Interagency Collaboration
Throughout this semester, you needed to do a variety of different tasks in considering leading
an interagency collaboration for a new initiative. Present three strengths for this work and three
areas for improvement along with strategies to develop these skills to be comfortable, confident,
and successful in engaging in this work.

It is important that you and your instructor share a common
understanding of the expectations for this course.
As you continue with your Human Services doctoral education, this course moves you into the
Leadership and Organizational Management specialization. While you may already have
management or administration experience in organizations, this course furthers your
professional development in collaboration across agencies to address community social
problems.
Since some community social problems are larger than an individual organization’s scope of
practice, these problems require interagency planning and collaboration to address these
problems through community outreach and coordinated services. This work requires attention to
a widely diverse group of stakeholders, but also multiple levels and types of stakeholder
elationships. These groups and relationships tend to have a history with implications on any
new interagency initiative that would be undertaken. Related to these are issues of ethics, of
communication, and of the use of technology. This course will explore these aspects through the
equired readings and discussions. They will be applied through Rive
end City scenarios of
interactive media and through assignments relating them to your own community. Upon
completion of this course, you will have a greater understanding of what is required in
conducting interagency collaboration for complex community problems including specific
leadership skills and abilities that are required for this work.
Throughout your program, you will be strengthening your identity as a human services
professional. To view a special interactive tool that has been designed for you to document your
progress. This profile, which will appear in courses throughout your program, is a dedicated
space for you to journal your growth and personal effectiveness as a professional. It will also
provide opportunities for you to share your progress and accomplishments with your peers.

INTRODUCTION
Throughout your life, you have been a resident and a member of multiple communities.
Engaging in a community as a resident or a member provides one perspective. Working in an
agency within a community requires a human services leader to have a deeper understanding
of the community. While the agency may provide most of its services on an individual or family
level, the community provides the context of practice.
This unit asks you to explore the concepts of community and community outreach in
elationship. The activity related to Rive
end City is an opportunity for you to get to know a city
and to determine potential information and resources that a human services leader would want
to access to better understand a community.

Community Outreach Approach
Community outreach approach is precisely a program that is targeted communication by the social organization with a group of people, who are working towards meeting the goal (Heath & Isbell, 2017). With respect to the Rive
end city, the community outreach approaches that can be initiated is at first by having a discussion with the wide range of stakeholders to align with the goal.
The social organization need to partner with the community to conduct local events that will help in engaging the private and non-profit sectors as well as government support to engaging in the local communities issues that need to be addressed.
