Explore and reflect on how best to assess, advocate and support the needs of people who are approaching the end of life and their families. Critically reflect on how to provide culturally safe end of life care informed through the differing perspectives of the many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples nations.
This essay enables you to consider how best to reflect and understand yourself and to recognise, advocate and address the needs of those who are dependent on you.
In this paper you must;
1. Respectfully compare and contrast culturally and/or spiritually different views that describe what is important in the passage of life to death that will enable a 'good death'. You are required to consider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and give examples of non-Indigenous cultural perspectives.
2. Propose two (2) evidence based strategies to promote respect, dignity and inclusion in decision making including palliative, end of life care and or VAD for older people
3. Discuss the role of the registered nurse in facilitating/implementing these strategies.
