Assignment 2: Resolving Performance Problems with the Network
XYZ Inc. has a small office with 80 users in California. The office employs a file and print server that caters to user requests.
Recently users have complained that it takes a lot of time to retrieve files from the server. In addition users have also complained that at times it takes a while to service print requests.
A network administrator of XYZ Inc. says that this is occurring because the network is not functioning at performance levels. What do you think are some possibilities for the cause of the problem? If making assumptions, please state what those assumptions are. What do you think would be possible solutions? Include a drawing of the topology that should be used and what types of networks you propose would work here and the accompanying justification.
By Week 4, Day 6, submit a report to the W4 Assignment 2 Dropbox as a 3- to 5-page MS Word document named ITS1101_W4_A2_LastName_FirstInitial.docx. Your report will describe the possible causes of the problem and the possible solutions. Make sure to cite your work using APA.

There could be number of reasons that XYZ Inc. servers are being slow or not behaving as 
expected: 
1. First reason is the most obvious one that the server is quite overloaded and it cannot 
handle the load being on to it during the peak hours. The server might not able to take 
load of 80 systems working simultaneously on the server, either hardware upgrade or two 
different servers should be used in order to mitigate the overall load on the system. 
2. Hardware upgrade can be done with the following components: 
a. Use of Gigabit Lan (1000 Mbps) card if using the 10/100 Mbps lan card, this 
would incredibly increase the number of connection due to increase in overall 
network bandwidth. 
b. Use of high speed HDD or replacing them to SSD, this would increase the 
overall response as well as lower the turnaround time, in turn leading to better 
performance. 
c. Use of lower latency RAM like corsair vengeance, generally used by gamers but 
can seriously help in boosting any slow PC performance. This would provide 
extra memory for connections hence able to cover more number of connections at 
the same time. 
3. Use of network monitoring tools to find any process or system specially taking most of 
the resources and find what all information being communicated on the network.
